Even over here where car dealers have some extortionate prices the R32 price is plummeting. If I could get the extra few thousand together for one (and some more for insurance ) I definitely would.

That is silly money!! but the fact is that the credit crunch is really kicking in and recently high petrol prices have scared everyone away from thirsty cars.

With the release of the MK6 just round the corner they have to get rid! Soooooo glad I didnt buy mine. Like another poster said on R32oc.. looks like VW will be getting stuffed when I hand mine back next year also

well you just got to play the market if you can.19.5k for my brand new r32.got 15k for ed30 (18 months old) so their for  if i got 7k for it in 3 years it is only 12.5 k loss in 3 years.I lost 8.5k on my last one in 15 months. It all near enough works out the same in the end. Even if i personaly only get 4k for it in 3 years i'll save 30-50k on the house i will eventually buy. So if you can get down your dealers and grab your self a bargin. happy daze

It also shows how much ££££ vw make out of us as well. In America 18 months ago they were $36,000 brand new at a time when it was around $2 to the pound and they came with dsg and leather as standard

i know that all remaining R32 group stock cars have been offered to dealers less 20% to get shot of them, thats alot of car for the money. Good if you want one likes been said, but a real  if you already own one and thinking of trading.

It's a real killer for the current owners but then again many cars are taking a hit now.  I just sold my fully loaded 57 plate 13k mile Octavia vRS for £11k which was a lot more than some dealers were offering for it.

This is even more desperate -

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/money/article1881443.ece

I think if many of you went to trade your GTi's now you'd be horrified at the numbers mentioned.

I went along to my local VW Dealers this afternoon and they only had one and it had been sold..... Spec was brand new R32, 5 door, DBP, DSG, sold for £22k this morning.  It was a £27k car!

I'd love one of these too, however reckon that they would give me a pathetic trade in on my lovely 55 plate fully loaded work of art.  So the cost to change is still going to be ridiculous.....still Id love an R32, watched an old top gear today where it was up against the 1 series and whappped its ass round the track and in every other department...and oh...that sound :)

I think the prices will come down further, i would expect all sorts of dealer incentive to come up soon, such as zero percent interest etc..mk6 round the corner and the credit crunch biting hard up towards christmas. I would love to take advantage of this but unless I could move mine for without taking a ridiculous hit wont be able to.

£16k now - yes good price but Glass's Guide will still murder the residuals in the current climate. Don't even think you will get any sensible deal part-ex. Best avoided I'm afraid :undecided:

Try these guys.... they've got more R32's than you can shake a stick at and the Sales Manager at the Leicester dealership is a real nice guy to deal with - Steve Sibcy.

Thanks for that Tony.. I'm actually looking for a second hand R32 - a 55 or 06 plate as I am also keeping my Edition 30.  The idea is to keep the Edition 30 on a low mileage (its 22k miles now after only 15 months ) pamper it and look after it - remap, new BBS CH black alloys, Milltek exhaust, CF etc....  The R32 will be the workhorse for a year. Did you ever get your hands on an Edition 30 or are you waiting for prices to fall - I reckon they will be pretty depressed next year with the Mk6 coming out and this recession on the way.

I like your style Illyun, that'll be two nice Golf's MkV's to have in the garage.

No, didn't buy an Ed30 in the end, although at the start of this year I did come pretty close and I had a deposit down on a brand new Candy White one with Xenon's and DSG.... unfortunately when it arrived at the delaers it had paintwork damage on the bonnet and whilst they offered to fix it I really didn't want to spend £24k on a car which had a re-sprayed bonnet.  After much deliberaton I rejected it and the dealer refunded my deposit which was good of them.

I'd like to get a second hand one now and have been looking around PH.com and Autotrader.... there seem to be plenty around so it's just a matter of picking one with a good spec and good price.

Good to see that there will be a few more R32's out there over the next year or so. Might just be my neck of the woods but I very rarely see others about.

btw you can expect to see 27mpg once warm around city. 31mpg if you drive conservatively on motorways. And as low as 16 if you thrashing the pants off it

Thats the BBS CH I was referring to in the post   The problem is that I am in a bit of limbo at the moment as I am waiting for a decision on a project in the Middle East.  If it goes ahead, I'll be off for at least 2 years and my Edition 30 will go into storage.  I'll find out on 16th November.  If not, I'm going to get modding very quickly

i doubt that I would notice any difference in fuel, my GTi round town rarely gets above 27mpg on average, and even less most tankfuls...Sure I have babied it along the motorway and the computer has read 43.3 mpg but who wants to drive like Andrew Sachs ffs.....

I'd love an R32. DBP, DSG, not worried re sat nav, the mfd2 is crap anyway...keep hoping in vein that some poor frustrated r32 owner who is pissed off with the high road tax or something wants a swap with a GTI....some hope eh tee hee....

Realistically, anything from 10 - 20k on top of the price of a standard car, depending on just how far you want to go with it. Those prices should come down as the kits become more readily available.

Any one else think this is way overpriced..if so, what would be a more realistic price...i mean if you were to take this car into a dealers for a trade in,...you would be lucky to get what just now...10k? - 12k???

That would've been over 25k new, but now you could get a brand new one the same spec for very close to what they're advertising at. It's far too hard to judge 2nd hand value of them now, but that does appear to be way off.

Heres an idea to beat the credit crunch..  it will never happen though will it.  perhaps it can't, I was a total slap head at economics.

My car is currently valued for trade in at say, £10k......I want an 06/07 R32, currently valued (if it were being traded-in at about £13k).....so..in my wee idealised world..I would just pay £3k to the dealer in cash to change over, the stealer then markets my car and gets say £13k, thereby stealer makes £5k...(£3k in cash from me, and £2k from the person who buys my car)..still with me? ...sound good?

The Stealer shifts his stock r32 (which he has had for 5 months), still makes good money and I get the car I want...its a win-win situation non?

Nah, in the real world....here's what happens instead.

The feckin stealer insists he wants £17k for his r32, and will give me £9k for my car!  Later, they will then sell my car on for £13k (if they are lucky I will grant you)...thereby potentially making a total of about £9k (if he pays £12k for the R32 in the first place, and makes £5k on that part, together with £4k on mine?).  The result I walk away with my money and he keeps a pile of rusting inventory on the car lot.

The greedy b@astards will go hungry unless they change their paradigm......

Ok I have just opened myself up to hoots of derision I know.....be gentle with me.

Post by: R32UK on 06 November 2008, 11:12
Go to the dealer.. tell him you have 4k cash plus your car. Tell him you have to have a R32 with the spec you want and see what he can do for you. Trust me he will be going away and doing some digging to find the car you want. Sales are crap at the moment!

Job done!

So I called into one of the other local dealers today on the off-chance they might have some R32 deals and as I walked into the showroom there it was..... a shiny new (unreg'd) 3 door R32, in Deep Blue Pearl.  The car has the DSG box, Anthracite Leather, Rear Tinted Glass, Rear Parking Sensors, and Armrest with iPod Prep.

And the price?  £21,495 OTR including 12 months RFL.

According to the latest price list it's a £29,080 OTR car (including all those options).

I'm soooooooooo tempted, I'm pulling my hair out trying to make a decision.  I never really considered buying an R32 as they always seemed so pricey, but at these prices should I take the plunge?

Yours,
Confused!    :undecided:

Sounds perfect...however..at that price although its a fantastic deal...and with the used prices falling even more dramatically you could probably get yourself an 07 that has less than 10k on the clock with a similar spec for about 4k less....thats where I am headed....just don't tell my wife...ok

guys these are cracking deals , but the bottom has still yet to be reached.
Its only going to get worse , so I would hold off til just before xmas (strike a fab deal at month end on Xmas eve)
End Nov / End Dec or Jan are the key times imho , remember the reg changes as well.
Not sure how thats going to go next year with the chaos atm
Not just R32's but at the moment 20k buys a lot of great cars , great buyers market

Don't know about you guys but I am getting my hands on one come December        - if I am still in the UK. I f I am in the Middle East, I 'll get one over there instead although I don't think they be so cheap over there.

I am very sure thanks Phil.

I've had trouble with all my local London dealers, with multiple cars, including, Citygate Ruislip, Chiswick and Twickenham.

I brought my car from Martins and have always had top notch service.  My Dad also brought his car there and has also had no problems.
In fact I drove out of my way to have my car serviced (cheaper than london) at Martins and again had no problems.

Sorry if you had a bad experience.

dont be so sure 2007GTi
