Hi all,
I am new to this so please bare with me, :embarassed:
I have a mk 4 Golf Gti Turbo, love the cars but I am living a nightmare at present.
On changing numerous blown exterior bulbs last night, I went remote lock my beloved vdub and no response...
On further inspection, I realised the interior lights weren't responding, and no power to the electric windows?
All other lights on the car are responding fine and the fuses for each function seem fine.
I appreciate there maybe similar posted topics like this but mine is something else I am sure.
BTW: I dont have a spare key...
PLease can someone HELP!!

At this distance, with that many symptoms, I think you need an auto-electrician.

open up the drivers door and remove the fuse panel cover on the side of the dash
you need to replace a 10amp fuse - think its the third row down
do that and hey presto

mines a 10amp :undecided: - removed it this week when messing about

could be 14.. but afaik that doesn't power the windows? maybe they're both gone.
chances are something got shorted when replacing the bulbs.. its worth checking that before swapping fuses

it does power the windows (on mine anyway) - for such a small fuse it has a lot of systems going through it :undecided:

Hi
Just bought my first gti a week ago.Noticed that rhs rear brake light was not working and like a tw-t decided to change the bulb still powered up. Shorted bulb holder against cigarette lighter.
I lost interior boot light, no problem I thought ,I then noticed that my new rhs brake bulb was not working then my cabin lights,then my central locking, by now I am starting to panic.
Haynes no help.VW manual no help.
I then decided to do a search on here and I can confirm that it is fuse 14 and that also you can include the brake lights but not the centre one in the list of items that this fuse looks after.

Check interior lights by dropping them down, your looking for a dead short or water ingress, seen this a few times now..

I had the same thing happen this morning.
Replacing the passenger side brake light. Taking the harness out carefully so I wont snap off a bulb, shorted the damn thing against the trunk light. Poof. Light out. Replaced the light and went on my business to the office. Noticed the Door open idiot light was on. Went to each door open shut it. Still on. Oh well, I'll mess with it later.
Got to work to flash my badge to the security guard. Windows wont roll down. Opened the door showed the man my badge went on in and parked. I checked out the fuse panel, couldnt determine which one was the power windows. Fuse schematics (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=951306&page=1)
I checked out #38. Fuse it fine. Now I'm getting pissed. Popped something else.... Will report back later. -Alan Seattle, WA
*edit* It was fuse #14. Not really documented.

Might sound silly but have you got an aftermarket stereo? My friend had the same problem unplugged the stereo and the central locking started working!
