i tried many things to find this fault.. it never came up on the scanner before either..
i replaced both relays..
anyhow recently have been driving (mainly while on the motorway, longish journeys) and the car would just start to splutter/die. i would let off the throttle for a moment and then plant the foot back on and it would go..
so was looking under the bonnet today to look for vacuum leaks.. i found that the pipe for the manifold to FPR was a bit rotten and also the manifold to MAP sensor pipe was also looking poor.. so on the way home i popped into halfords and bought some vacuum hose.
when i got home i plugged in the scanner to see what i could find..
IT CAME UP WITH: 00519 Manifold Absolute pressure SNS - G71 NO signal, intermittant fault.
now i am hoping to god that the ECU isnt cupoot.. i am hoping it was the fact that the vacuum hoses were perished and the problem is fixed..
fingers crossed eh?..
anybody else come across this problem?... cheers, jamie.

Had the same problem on my old 16v and it was caused by a perished map sensor hose. To replace it, you simply pull the old one off at the manifold, then lift the scuttle panel and pull the other side off at the ecu, then attach new hose. Hope that makes sense
-
yeah, i have done a temporary job for now as i have no time and i have a few long journeys to do this week..
but the hose seems to be routed in an awkward way.. it seems to go towards the wing then through the bulkhead before it routes back towards the manifold.. through loads of trunking like.. was just wondering what else needs to be removed...
cheers, jamie.
-
oh, it also seems to go under the pollen filter too...lol
-
When i did mine, i pulled out the old one, think i had to lift the pollen filter out to get at it, then i replaced it by the most direct route. (through grommet in bulkhead).

yeah, that's which way its going at the moment. (the grommet that's about 3-4 cm in diameter?..)
just want to route it as it was originally.. couldnt do it at the time as it was late and just wanted to get it done so i could drive to work the next day..
and it definitely did the trick

i think i've got this problem too.. had it for a while...
can anyone explain better where this pipe goes.. maybe a nice pic?
is it a quick/easy job too?
-
Hello Overseer mate!
Pipe runs up from intake manifold, around back and then up through bulkhead. Most pics wont pick it up as its only 4 or 5mm tube. Its only a push fit with no jubilee clips. So yes dead easy job.
-
allo!
where on the intake manifold? is it that one just behind the throttle body?
i'll have to chase it down..
-
Sorry yea thats the one mate!
-
ok.. well i know where one end starts, so i can follow it through..
have a feeling its been replaced before.... and maybe even been "reinforced" at the throttle body end with a bit of zip tie
-
ok.. so standing looking directly at the engine bay.. the one in question leaves right out the back of the inlet manifold, right off into the bulkhead..
if so mine is fairly frayed, and has some zip tie on it.. then disappears off into the bulkhead
but i cant see how to follow it further easily... how do i get in there?

You have to take out the plastic tray above the pollen filter and ECU. There is a rubber strip first that just pulls off then you have to be careful getting the end of the plastric tray out from the bonnet hinge! I broke mine doing this!
You may have enough space to just lift the tray once you have pulled off the rubber strip so try that first!
The pipe goes to the ECU which is roughly in the middle.

looks like i need to do this one...
ebay vag-com just turned up and.....
1 Fault Found:
00519 - Intake Manifold Pressure Sensor (G71)
03-00 - No Signal
got it from this guy...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-VAG-COM-409-1-OBD-2-II-CABLE-LEAD-AUDI-VW-VAG-COM_W0QQitemZ320264176020QQihZ011QQcategoryZ30921QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
works fine on my laptop which runs vista :)
-
after looking around on the interwebs i found that the "00519" can also be solved by swapping out the ECU relay
so i did that quickly.. and went for a quick rag.. no problem so far.. but time will tell..
got some vac tubing too..
-
just replace the tubing, i replaced the relay weeks before i replace the tubing, i thought the problem went but as it was a desquised intermittant fault, it just came back when i was on a long journey again..
as soon as the pipe was replaced the fault has never appeared again and the engine now runs sweet as a nut.
-
i'm planning on doing that too.. but so far we're on day 3 of no stuttering AND no ABS fault, whereas from thurs last week through to the morning I changed the relay it was playing up.
havent put my laptop back on it yet either..
-
I'm getting this problem on my 2.0 16v too.
I want to buy a replacement pipe, where did you get yours?
-
dont have my golf anymore, but i got it from vw.
the thing that fixed my car in the end was the relay.
-
Cheers mate...
Just rang them £8.50 a metre. I'll see if I can get it elsewhere before
paying VW over the odds.
Actually Just got price motor factor shop £2.50 a metre -
-
Replaced vacuum pipe and it's spot on now!!! :-D
Can't smell petrol on start up either.
I replaced the ECU Relay a while back along with the Fuel Pump Relay so all good.
