Hi!
Been reading through the posts for an answer to my non starter.
Went to Start the Car this evening, The car would not turnover, Ignition on, If you hold the key turned, the car almost starts a couple of times, but doesn't Quite make it. I think the battery is Ok! I've also considered that the Starter Motor could be at fault, Given it a Whack with a Wrench, but still no starting!
Any suggestions guys - BTW Car is a GTI 16v 1997 with 110k.
Car not given an prior warning of giving up!

Try moving the key around when you try to start it...as the ignition switches fail!! its possible your getting the live to the starter and then the switch is losing it making it turn over but not catch

Just given that Idea ago, dint work, Ignition is getting less fierce, think I'm draning the battery, or flooding it!!
I can confirm its getting cold out tonight!
Looks as though I wont'd be taking the golf to work tommorow!!

does it turn over slow or fast?
Turns over pretty normally, almost fires once, then turns over slowly

its not your starter motor and your battery sounds ok too. you need to check your plugs are sparking.
