Whack the demister setting on full heat. De-ice 4 side windows with ice scraper, the front screen will almost be done, just a little scrape here a little scrape there :afro: oh and ofc the rear screen will be done with the heated screen control. Jobs a good'un

you use de-icer? I might have made this up, but I'm sure I remember someone saying that it can actually damage your paintwork...but then again, I'm sure someone said that about screenwash - and sadly enough, I use neither :lipsrsealed:

It can scratch your screen, seen it! My beetle is a nightmare for this as it has no heat and no demisters, just a screen full of scratches!

the de-icer or your actual tool you use to clean it?
I tend to actually get up abit earlier...turn the engine over, with heaters on, just use a scraper and by the time you have done, the engine has warmed up and the car for you inside and everyone is happy

I wanted to ask about this, my heaters are really sh!t, its a half hour+ run to work and they are still not heated up, despite sitting in the car park for a good 15 mins scraping etc.

Now my mums got a 1.3 Mk2 C reg fully original and hers are mint!

but mine has got a GTI interior? Any ideas?

Change the thermostat.

the old bank card from the wallet is the handiest thing to use to clear ice and won't cause any screen scratches.

considering you're bothered about screenwash damaging your paintwork - staring up a car and leaving it at idle is just as bad for the engine, if not worse.  It needs to be under slight load when first started to get the oil circulated and warmed asap.

It's tempting though, and I still do it occasionally!

Do Demon tweeks do the heated screens for the golf. I know that they did one for a classic mini, which I was considering some time ago.

Does it work at all? Are you using it correctly? have you got the vents in the open position? Does it blow cold air? Check that the foam has not blocked the vents. Failing all of that it's either a replacement valve/copper pipe or heater matrix.

It blows, and it does get warm it just takes ages, works best on number 2 (the little heater sign), and both switches slid to the right.

It blows cold air but they are not very powerful, and Ive tried the vents in all different positions.

Screen Wash and De-Icer both contain solvents. In the long run they will affect the rubber seals but would take years and I guess prolonged De-Icer attacks on the paint may damage it a little but again would need to drown it.

Its mainly isopropanol iirc.

littel nasty valves going to the heater matrix are the main reson for cold air

boiling hot kettel ful of water is a bad idea  but warm kettel full of water works quite well,  or you chould just invest in a gas axe    hold it about 5-6ft away from the screen and turn the propane right up,   peopel will look at you really funny tho  but at least it dosen't involve getting cold

Considering I have paid for a respray, then yeah..
So your telling me that you should not let your car stand at idle, you should just start driving it from cold and that is better for your engine?

Fair enough :)

yes, it's better to drive the car off after about 20 seconds or so.  Don't over rev it though.

here's something I found on it:

We use this company for all our race car screens, I would have thought it would be very likely that they have an application for Golfs, could be worth contacting them...  http://www.finind.com/uk/index.html
