Not a gti but my old fella is looking into a new mk5 1.9 match Dsg, anyone have any experience of this model

....

No direct experience but I have heard that DSG suits some engines/cars but not others. 1.9 should be big enough. I assume petrol powered.

There is another DSG version specifically designed for smaller powered cars - Dry clutches instead of wet.

The 1.9 will be the older version of the TDI lump. Probably the 105bhp version. I've had the TDI 140 DSG version and the DSG does suit that version quite well due to the diesels low down torque. The 1.9 is slightly better with the fuel economy than the 2.0 version too

Just don't plan on too many thrilling rides and traffic light wins!

No don't think he's to fussed about the traffic light grand-prix, yes it is the older 1.9tdi 105bhp engine, so its well proven. He gets his cars on mobility so I don't think a brand new mk5 with air-con, leccy windows etc can be sniffed at

Thanks for the answers lads, wonder how he'll feel when he leaves it me when he goes on his jollys and it comes back on 19's, coilovers and a remap

my sister has a 1.9 TDI with DSG, after driving my GTI its obviously not as responsive, but I think its a decent car and she loves it.  bung it in sport mode and it does go pretty well.  considering its insurance group 6, its a good DSG for the money in my opinion.

last time I checked the only other model with DSG with a small engine was the terrible 1.4 turbo & supercharged thing, which clarkson said was dreadful.

DSG in TDI is quite nice with the short rev range - by the sounds of it I am sure he'll be happy with it, after all its the best gearbox going

....No, he's not gay but his boyfriend is

We've got a lady on the forum who drinks from the furry cup (I think!) but don't know of any lovers of the man bum here. No problem from me, either way.

....Ooops! No, I'm strictly only into the ladies. I did once have a wonderful girlfriend who was bi-sexual (and half Asian and half Japanese - I loved her to bits!)

^^^^

Yes, I most certainly loved all her 'bits' very enthusiastically. As I'm now divorced (not from her) and very single, I could do without the sexual memories but at least they are great memories.
