Title: Electric/manual window question
Post by: 8v Grunt! on 29 October 2008, 13:45
I have finally sourced a drivers door for my 89 8v :grin
It is from a 91 and therefore has leccy window. Is it easy to convert to manual?

simple unbolt and bolt on job!
edit, actually, might be a bit more tricky.  trouble is window needs to be open a bit for easy access to the bolts holdin glass to regulator, if its shut it makes it quite tricky though prob doable with spanners!

other option is to jump the motor with 12v from your battery to open it a bit.  All this assumes it has glass in

It has glass in and is closed, so could be a bit more tricky.

I just recall i gave up trying in a local breaker, but that was a long time ago.  At the time I had no spanners, shocking I know

ratchet spanners were made for this job

In the past I've managed to manually wind down an electric window bvy doing the following:

Undo the two 10mm bolt that hold the motor to the winder mechanism
Pull the body of the motor away slightly leaving the rotor behind
Tilt the body of the motor to the side slightly so the rotor is locked-up inside it
Rotate the complete motor assembly by hand in the right direction and the glass will slowly come down.

This will all become a lot clearer when you have it in front of you, it's tedious but it does work.

you can unwinde the windo just as he said im in the proses of fixing my lecy window and its a pain in the a***  now the weather is cold and i cant shut the window lol weekend job i think
if you undo all the nuts you can reach and one of the ones holding the glass you can pull the lot down and the window will slide down with it as it pivits on the last bolt if you no what i mean then undo the last one with ease :)
