Title: Cool Ice Footwell Lights
Post by: stokeballoon on 27 October 2008, 17:51
I had a spare pair of Ice Blue Sidelight bulbs that i had removed from my MK4 years ago, was going to fit them to the ED30, but powerbulbs very kindly sent me some Osram blue jobs.

Today I had a spare 15 mins and fitted them to my footwell lights, really make a difference.  i took pics, but with my poor camera, they didnt come out too well.

good quick mod, the only problem was getting the drivers side buld holder out, ended up talking the trim tray out, after releasing the OBD port (i think it was) from its holder.

Pictures don't do it justice.

Pic looks just as yellow as OEM bulbs! But I know that photos rarely show just how good uprated bulbs are in particular!

But I like the idea - may have to do this myself!

Please bear in mond the camera used was last seen on the ark.

The light there now is a nice bright white, not as the Retro camera has shown!

It was a doddle to do, but a right Tw!T to photo!

What type of bulb is needed for the footwell lights like the mod done here?

Also, does anyone know the type of bulb needed for the 'surrounding area lighting' for the bulbs under the wingmirrors? Mine are much too yellow looking!!

501 footwell lights

i think the "useless lights" under the wing mirror are festoon or 501s aswell

I did a mod using red LEDs to match the dash illumination, although it was a bit more involved to overcome the blown bulb detection.

I’ve tried to gain access to the puddle lights to fit blue bulbs but couldn’t work it out and can’t find any ‘how-tos’, care to enlighten me on this SteveS?

To get the lights out, on the drivers side, i had to remove the lower tray, which had 2 torx (T20) screws holding it in, I also released the ODB port from its holder and removed the tray whole.  Then when on the bench, it is really easy to remove the light.  On the pic below, on the far left is a small tab that needs to be depressed to remove the light from the tray, then as below the pic to get to the bulb.

Passenger side, is easy, my footwell lamp assembly came our really easy, just get a small screwdriver and insert it on the far left (nearest the outside of the car) and lever the light out, disconnect the loom, and as poer instructions below pic.

The pic above shows the "shroud" that needs to be removed, just lever it off, and spring it back on, it fits over 4 small tabs.

IGNORE THE BLACK RESISTOR PACK ABOVE THE LAMP IN THE PIC.

Lol I've been wanting to do some red lights for a whiles now. Just hadn't got round to having a look at the footwells.

I want some red submarine lights too. Not sure if I can get it to work.

As in the lights underneath the wing mirrors?? You push the wing mirror outwards (opposite direction to folding), and then it should reveal one of those hexagonal screw thingies that you can just unscrew. Then use a flathead screwdriver to prize out the light cluster.
