Yes guys the RS4 has finally got me into a bit ov bother!!
Pulled last night by the usual Volvo T5. Alright i was travelling just over 100mph BUT the copper couldnt get a"fix" on me due to other cars and a slight curve in the road. When he did "get a fix" he got me at 91mph IN A 70 ZONE.
It was a fair cop! and thougt i was gunna get a hard time as only COCKS drive RS4,S!!!  but he was ok but did say if he had clocked me at 100 or more i WOULD have got a ban! PHEW
Anyway 3 points and 60 squid but could have been worse.
Anyway keep it careful guys and i live to fight another day.
-
if he had clocked me at 100 or more i WOULD have got a ban! PHEW
was it M-way or DC?
I need to slow down when I drive. It's too frikkin easy to go over the speed limit without realising in the GTI. At least in the fezza, you knew from the engine sound you were going too fast.

....Which is why I prefer the large digital speed display and accuracy of the PogoAlert. Sticky Vicky said that she couldn't tell how fast she was going in the electric car she drove at Goodwood because she couldn't hear the engine. A Milltek (or similar) exhaust will mean that you can hear your engine in the GTI.

Its a fair cop guv.. :lipsrsealed:

At least you got good value for your three points and £60 ..... you could have been done by a mobile van at 79 and still got the same
-
Unlucky Chrissy
I can't imagine how easy 100mph comes up in the RS
-
Funny you mention this. Was at a robot and a a4 avant pulled up with s line logos on it. Owner had all the windows down listening to music. So i commented to my mom that its usually the low engine spec vehicles (2 litre or 1.6) with rs4 kit on them. At this point i had not seen the back of the car. The owner must have heard my comments and took offence. With a little grin he floored the car. . . Ya. It was a 3.2 litre quattro. Next thing we see he is being pulled over. Just to be told how awesome his car is by the cop. Proves there are some decent cops arounds still.

Most Traffic cops love cars ... and bikes ... so you have a better chance of getting a warning ..... something Gatso's never, ever do !

I beg to differ about a third of all gatso's dont have any film in but still flash. :nerd:
It would be nice if a third of all traffic cops gave us a warning.

Your lucky...I got done friday night.
Heres the story...was coming back on the M62 from Manchester and as I pass brighouse I guess im hitting a ton, not too sure to be totally honest and leave the M62 at Junction 26 onto the M606 and was being persued by a T5. Finally caught upto me at the traffic lights near macdonalds and said my average speed was 118mph over 2 miles. Didnt actually get close enough to get a true speed because he couldnt catch me.
Spare me the 'your a cock for driving like that blah blah blah' I know I was driving like a cock so I will spare you the post.
Waiting for a court date now and see what happens. Currently have no points and never been done for anything in the past.

Did they get you in the back of the car and show you 118

Was in the back of the car for a good 40 minutes. I dont know how he worked out my speed. I was a good distance in front to start with so god knows how he reckons I was doing 118mph.

....What do you think will happen?
Sorry to say this, but.......Well over 100 mph and for 2 miles = Automatic Ban
-
Im expecting a ban and a fine. Just been speaking to a copper and he said he has seen worse and they have recieved 6 points and a fine. Depends on the circumstances really...if i really need the car then sometimes this will be taken into account and I could get 6 points and a fine.
Cant see the ban being that long if it does come to that anyway. If it is 6 months+ then bye bye GTI.
and when the license is back hello mr GTI or S3.
-
Not to put any more of a downer, if you do escape with 6 points and a Fine, you cant pretty much say it will be near on impossible to find
anyone that would Cover you in future for your insurance policy in the GTi with a big speeding offence on it.Being that you are a young
driver, those insurance companys dont like young drivers as it is in a high group insurance car.Same as Crissy will feel it alittle come
renewel with a speeding ticket, but his age will help keep the increase down somewhat.
These examples are food for thought for us all. It doesnt hit home untill someone you know gets caught.Once you hit 3 figure speed, your gambling
with your licence.
-
If he has a timed recording of you at 118 then your speedo must have been reading 130ish :lipsrsealed:
To keep your licence you basically have to prove that you will loose you job without it, or you have got to have a unusual set of circumstances to dodge the ban the circumstances obviously has an effect on how long the ban will be, it may be cost effective to get a specialist solicitor or lawyer to take up your case you then might even get you off on a technicality. Expect a big fine if you avoid a ban good luck.
-
Your speed would have almost certainly been recorded on a device called 'Police Pilot' or 'Vascar' which measures your time between two fixed points. The police car covers the same bit of road so knows what the distance was. When you know the distance travelled and the time it took you can easily work out the speed - which is what the device does. It gives you the speed over a given distance. It is the average so you *may* for part have been going quicker or slower. The Police officers use marking on the road, shadows from bridges, etc to clock you and don't have to be that close to do it .....
I am surprised they didn't show you it on a video - but they don't have to and the device doesn't always work through the video, if indeed the car had video. Just depends what car and how old the car is.
I would suggest for an average speed of 118mph there is no way you will keep your licence - A ban of at least 28 days but up to 6 months is likely. My neighbour just got done for 131mph on the M6 .... he got a three month ban and was very happy with that given what could have happened !

i was 21 when i got the gti with 8 points and a CD10 (6 month careless driving ban) and i still got insured!! the gti's arnt super cars, there hot hatches and reletavly easy to insure, oh and i did a quote on my mates ST the other day and it was 1000 more than the GTI.
dont worry if you get a ban, insurence will still be very possible.

Was it a marked car? I drive on that bit of the M62 on a regular basis (I live in Huddersfield) and cannot remember ever seeing a marked car between Huddersfield and Leeds. A bit worrying (not that I ever exceed more than 100mph).

Sorry joe, im not used to having a 4 figure yearly insurance premium with my age and NCD. i start swetting if mines over £500!!

My son got a 3 month ban for going 103 mph over a mile distance and had to do a re test+ fine.
-
It was a marked car pulling onto the M62 from Brighouse, he showed me the video and I was way ahead of him to start with so it is unlikely he ever clocked my actual speed so thats why I dont know how he can say it was 118 avg. It was 1.30am and dark so thats why I didnt notice him, he didnt put the lights on until he saw me stop at the red lights at the top of the M606.
Already got a renewal quote assuming I get six points and its goes up £120. It was through confused.com and they dont ask what I got the points for just how many. Might ask further along the line maybe. Prepared to pay upto £1500 max.
I could easily get a job in Cheshire with my Dad and try use that as an excuse not to get banned as its 50+ miles away and cant see them putting me out of a job to claim the dole now.

I take it he had his license less than 2 years?

....Your judgement of being "way ahead of him" is unlikely to match the fact that, as SO8 posted, he doesn't have to be that close to you. If he didn't manage to get firm evidence of your offence he would have told you so and just given you a stern warning.
He's not going to put on his 'blues' until such time he wants you to know he's there and wanting to stop you.

True...Ive accepted I was driving like a tosser and just hoping I get abit of luck and keep my license.
Wonder what my Dad will say when I tell him :lipsrsealed:
Suppose its my license, my car, my problem.
Had nothing but bad luck since I got the Edition 30. Both wing mirrors have been clipped (1 by a bus and 1 by someone pulling into my lane) a new engine and now this.

The video is often zoomed right back .... which gives an impression of a car being farther away than it is to the human eye in real life. Officers keep the video zoomed back as when they approach junctions and the like it catches more of what their eye sees if something happens - the downside is that is can make a car look distant when infact it is not too far away.

as said before try greenlight insurance, im 25 with 6 points on the licence, running an ed30 with remap and milltek tbe all disclosed c270 bhp to 330 bhp depending on the rollers :lipsrsealed: 4 year no claims all for £597 per year,
try the smaller companies, those on money supermarket and confused etc only work with big insurers who hate young drivers with nice cars
-
I would contact a specialist brief just in-case. It is possible to escape a ban if it would cause due hardship. A few years ago I was running with 9 points, 3XSP30's, when I got pulled doing 107mph on my bike, looking at another 6 points or an instant ban
I got a specialist solicitor on-board, he prepared my defence, I'm self-employed etc...., they gave me the 6 ponits but didn't ban me meaning I was driving around with 15 points on my licence for the best part of 2 years. That changes your driving style believe me . I can give you his number if you like Pm me, he still practises and is based in Cheshire
-
my average speed was 118mph over 2 miles.
The guidelines for magistrates suggest (and bear in mind hey only go up to 40mph over he limit) a ban of up to 56 days & fine could be up to a max £2500. The ban could be longer because of the amount of excess speed...
I assume that they gave you a verbal NIP... in which case you have up to six months to wait for a possible prosecution.
Seek legal advice if/when they prosecute you.
-
....
To add to gaz's post - Seek fully qualified SPECIALIST legal advice and NEVER represent yourself in Court! - You simply don't know the rules or etiquette or chicanery.
[I have a lot of court appearance experience, though not usually as The Accused, - From local Magistrates to The High Court. Don't ask!]

I can live with that sort of ban...not sure about that fine though
Cant see it being that much in all honesty...
NIP?
I have already spoke to a solicitors and said go see them when I get a court date and see what they can do for me. Pretty much skint all the time, I work part-time and basically all my money goes on my car so its going to be tight. Just applied for a full-time job and need to get saving. Apparently there are on duty solicitors free of charge at court...never been in court so I wouldnt know.
-
Agree with most of the above advice.
You will need a good specialist lawyer, if they get round to prosecuting... I've known cases similar to this that didn't come to court within the 6 month limit and the drivers got away with it... mind you they weren't doing 118mph...
-
The fine is unlikely to be that big if they ban you (depending on how much you earn... and I'm not expecting you to tell me!)...
NIP = Notice of Intention to Prosecute... worth having a look here www.pepipoo.com/ (http://www.pepipoo.com/) to better understand the process...
But I refer to my previous post. IF they prosecute, seek specialist
legal advice not the average duty solicitor who may not have the detail understanding of how to deal with a serious speeding offence... you have up to six months to wait.
Cheers,
Corgi.
BTW - nor have I but my Dad is in the know and has written books on sentencing. His advice enabled a friend of mine to get away without a ban (5 points and £450) for 98 in a 60...
-
Yeah I did get a NIP.
I dont care I will tell you how much I earn...bearing in mind I have recently finished Uni so I was working at the local Morrisons throughout my studying and have yet to get a career going. I earn roughly £600 a month. Over 50% goes on the car.
How do you know its a ban of upto 56 days? I was told 1-12 months?
-
back to speeding
I got caught by cameras many a time (never by humans yet), paid lots of cash so far. The last speeding ticket was 90 squid. :lipsrsealed:
-

damn!
If I could afford an ED30 earning only 600 quid a month, with the money I make now I should have a Lambo!
-
I was quoting the advice given to magistrates... there is a table that gives a speed range over the limit and the suggested action. The magistrate can then take into account "aggravating or mitigating circumstances" based on that they set their sentence.
The speed bands go up to 31-40mph over suggesting 6 points or up to 56 days + fine + costs, by my calculations you were, at least 48 over... that's outside the guidelines. So expect a ban of at least 56 days + substantial fine + costs.
The seriousness of the offence is why all are suggesting you seek the advice of a specialist in this field.
Remember these are guidelines only, depending on how serious the magistrate views the offence, should it come to court, you could find that the ban and fine are much greater or with a good brief much less.
BTW it is not how much you are earning now that they will consider it will be how much you are earning if/when it comes to sentencing.
Cheers,
Corgi.

I have nothing else to pay for really apart from my phone, sky tv and the gym so im quite lucky. Still living with the parentals rent free.
-
....
Tricky! On one hand, if you stay living with your parents and on low-ish income, your fine may be low....But then your ban might be long to make the sentence more appropriate in its harshness as the court sees fit.
If on the other hand you have a job with your dad and are claiming you need the car, your ban may be shorter but consequently your fine greater.
Either way, they'll be out to teach you a strong lesson. I know we've all done it, but 118 mph for 2 miles in the UK is taking the p!ss and they'll slap you for it - Sorry!

No accidents no points at all. Got 1 year ncb will be 2 like next may.
I surpose thats the reason why its high. I went to confused right now and did quotes on a gti. Best was 1500 quid still to much.
