Just wanted to know if Jetta wings are the same as the golf mk2's. A garage has fitted my front drivers wing and there is a gap between the grill and the panel. The guy i bought the wing off said its was a straight fit also iv been told by other people its the same match. The garage excuse is that the panel is not from a golf mk2.
-
as far as i know there the same
-
I also explained to the garage that people run single headlight conversion from a mk2 which fits in nice and neat.
-
the garage is making excuses! get a pic up, how big a gap are you talking?
-
if it's a crap pattern you'll get gaps, also if they didn't try to get it positioned right
-
They said all the holes line up. Iv just got a feeling they didnt to a good repair job and giving me excuses. Appreciate your help fellas......

Jetta and golf wings are the same. Either they have done a sh!te job (which is very possible) or that they haven't bolted it up in the right position, close to the grill. Pop the bonnet and check the 4 or 5 bolts on the top of the wing, slacken them, push the wing as tight as tight as possible, then retighten. If this doesn't solve it, it was a poor repair.
If you can push it in and then the bonnet doens't shut then its not correctly aligned.

Looks like ill be paying them another visit. I new i was right in the first place, the whole garage was against me it was more of hush hush of you go now. Im even going to show this thread to them. Cheers mate

Hope you manage to get something sorted with the garage buddy!
What wheels are those?!

Oz Turbos's 15x8.5 / 15x9.5

Is that a genuine front grill?
go to the rear of the car. look down the side and the wing should look straight.
Should have about a few mm gap between the grill and wing
Looks like the alignment is well out. Pannel gaps take some time to get right!

Before you do any complaining, you need to take 2 critical measurements! open the bonnet, check the area where the front panel (slam Panel) meets the wings, you should see the heads of 2x 10mm self tapping bolts on both sides of the car, these bolts hold the front panel, and the wings, to the inner wings, now notice between each of these 2 pairs of bolts is a hole that appears to do nothing, this is a 12mm body alignment data hole, and is the key to setting up the correct front end alignment
Here's what to do, you now have to measure diagonal alignment, with the bonnet up, find the rearmost, wing fixing bolt on the O/S of the vehicle, should be the bolt closest to the bonnet hinge, get someone to hold the end of the tape measure exactly in the CENTER of the bolt head, and not to move it! take the tape across to the N/S alignment hole, and measure to DEAD CENTER, It should read bang on 155cm In both directions! VW give you +-3mm to play with here, any more than that, then you have problems! measure up, and let me know what you have, and I'll try and point you in the right direction
By the way, Jetta wings ARE different to Golf wings!, although they are the same part No, Jetta wings were tweaked on the production line for a closer fit around the grill

Just out of curiosity then, a question..
If they were 'tweaked' on the production line, does that mean any Jetta ever repaired with a new wing (the wings having the same part number) after a bump, never looked right and straight again?

I was waiting for that question!! I used to repair lots of Mk2s Golfs while they were still in production, and wing fit around the grill was always pretty good, but for whatever reason never 100% perfect, If the same repair was made to a Jetta, then the gap around the grill was always different to the Golf, but could be overcome by straightening out the radius a little.. so the problem was actually with the fault of the shape of the grill, and not the wings! it was just easier to adjust the wings, rather than a moulded plastic part, so yes, there are plenty of Jettas out the with wings that have not been tweaked to fit the grill..

Ahh ok, so maybe the repair job done on dub_maniac's car isn't so bad after all then...

Hmm not really, look at his pic again, the bonnet to wing gap looks a little on the wide side.. hopefully it can be rectified by juggling with the bolts..
