I have had my Mk5 GTi 2005 for around 5 weeks. I have noticed most of the time and also when driving it hard that when the engine is idiling there is a clicking/ ticking noise coming from the front part of the engine block, i have checked the oil and it seems fine and plenty in. Just wondering is it worth going to the dealer to get a full check or is it a common or easily resolved problem?
In an ideal world i would like the engine to have a smooth and quiet tick over!
Also does any body know any good vw or golf gti specialists in the North West area ideally near Preston???
Cheers
Mark.

it's normal and nothing to worry about. they all do it!
-
Do you have any ideas what it is making the noise, if they all do it i guess its nothing to worry about!!!
Cheers,
Mark.

One of the few and far between totally FOC standard fit options VW installed! Only solution is to either:
a: Turn up the Stereo
b: Buy a TB Milltek
c: Buy an R32

....I believe it's something to do with the injectors on the 2.0T FSI engine.

....Hardly a BMW engine is it?
The only cure is a Milltek (or APR if you prefer) exhaust

What effect does this exhaust system have on the engine noise, is it something to do with the exhaust manifold???

it wont get rid of the horrid clicking etc, just add a better exhaust note

Yeah i have to say i am pretty dissapointed as i thought the 2.0 engine would have a nice smooth engine sound but i also wish Danielle Lloyd was my girlfriend and thats not gonna happen!!! If only the R32 was cheaper.

I rather like the farty burps, chugs and rasps that come from the little turbocharged 4 pot.

Couldnt of discribed it any better!!!

Changing the air intake helps too as with that and a Milltek the engine noise is only an issue if you are outside the car near the front. (I try never to be outside the car when its running )

What air intake do you suggest and what kind of performance gain does it give? My mate said that oiled panels/cones etc are bad for vag cars???

Although no scientific proof, the Carbonio type seem to be popular, and In my mind if more air's gettin in where it's needed then that can only be a good thing  I can certainly here mine suckin away :lipsrsealed:
Again the ITG filter seems a good/popular (but a tad expensive) choice, I have K&N and have no complaints.

Hi Mark,
Check out the VWUK website for the R32... it’s just been reduced by £2,475... food for thought?

And why do they sound like a diesel engine on start up?? (hope it aint just mine). Bit embarrasing when parked next to other modders!

because it uses similar technology to diesels (injectors etc)
