Having the rear Gti badge replaced under warranty next week as its started to bubble, the dealer told me they need it for a while as they have to strip down the boots interior to get to it!. Is this true?, I thought they just stick on, and peel off!???
-
they are, I changed mine for a red un, are they getting mixed up with the VW boot handle, there is a corrosion issue with them also
-
I am pretty sure its the gti badge and not the boot handle(did hear about them also but mines ok so far!)
Seen genuine Gti badges on ebay and there only adhesive.
-
they are, my original one's are still in the garage, just show's what the stealer's know
-
I think Gaz is right and the stealer is getting confused between the boot handle.
-
Which badge is peeling ?, the Gti on the left hand side ?, if so like other say its a stick on jobbie, they could do it while you have a coffee lol
-
Just had a pair of Red Anniversary GTI badges delivered to replace the chrome ones.
-
Yes the left Gti badge on the tailgate. I think when I hand it over I will ask them why they need to rip the boot lid interior apart and make sure they are not screwing with anything else!
-
I just went into the dealer today as all my wheel centre caps and the vw boot release handle have corroded and have like a white bubbling effect on them, i think it has been named 'white worm'.
My car is Jan 2005 but the guy would not say it was covered until it was looked at by the mechanics i think he meant just in case it was careless damage which it isnt.
Anyway going in on Friday to get it looked at so fingers crossed it should be ok as i dont fancy payin out! He also said they would have to access the badge from inside the boot and the whole mechanism will need to be changed! i just thought it peeled off but i will have to see what happens!

Make sure you demonstrate the condition of the car before you give it in and get them to sign to confirm.
Otherwise you'll end up with mysterious marks and dents on your boot and bonnet, and gouged out alloys! :embarassed:

Im guessing you had a bad experience???
-
No but if you read the other threads, it seems like everyone else has.
I haven't yet had a chance to go back to my original dealer.
-
Well i went to the dealer today and he explained that the corrosion was not covered under the warranty and that it would cost £70 + Fitting + VAT for the rear VW boot badge as they need to refit the whole mechanism!!! The wheel cap center's costing £4.50 each which im going to let them do but im not happy about the boot badge!!! Any suggestions of anybody of where i could get this done cheaper???
Im also due a service in Jan which will be a major one at £300 and a new timing belt costing £290 so looks like my remap will be put back again!!!
Not happy.
Mark.

Try another stealer, you may get a completely different experience
-
Do they not have it all logged and know i have tried before? Has anybody else got it repaired on good will???
-
Funny you should say that they wont cover the cost of the badges cos when I was at the dealers earlier today that was one thing they said they would cover is any corroding badges!!
-
My car was three years old in Jan this year and he said it wasnt covered i thought this would come under the five year warranty!!!!
-
Ahhhh mine is not even 2 years old yet, they will only honour warranty for the first 3 years if its a UK car.

Depends how far you took the enquiry with them, but take a chance and go elsewhere, what have you got to lose?
-
Yeah im going to push it further its not really fair!!! is this the only way to replace though???

I think the best you can hope for is a contribution from VW. If they can find no damage on the badge itself you should be ok...........
-
Yeah maybe the best i can hope for is a conrtibution or maybe a broker!

If you mean a breaker? Then the cheapest I've seen them go for on Fleabay is around £50.

Yeah yours is ok cos its well in its warranty, im sure mine would have gone inside the warranty and the previous owner never bothered!!! but the dealers are being nobs and not doing the decent thing!

MarkfiveGTI, I got my VW tailgate badge replaced with no issue under warranty, 3 days before my September 05's warranty ran out. Post some pics, it sounds like white worm corrosion and it is a well known issue, your stealer sounds crap....go somewhere else and get their warranty person to look at it.
Whilst I was there my stealer checked the vw hub caps and even checked to see if the vw emblem on the front grill was starting to go. It wasn't however they were going to replace the hub caps but then backed down due to the fact that my R32 style wheels were not fitted from the factory. I just paid £20 and fitted them myself in 5 mins.
Go elsewhere mate, its a very common problem.
