I'm just started the process of bringing my 8v GTi back from the dead. I've bought a new starter, alternator and battery and while I had my head in the engine bay I noticed some of the copper brake lines were not looking too MOT worthy even thogh most of them were replaced about 2 years ago when I stopped used the car.
Anyway, has anyone used or know of anywhere that will supply stainless brake lines?

yeah try hose direct , rotherham 01709 876900
i bought 4 metres of braided line and all the screw on end's for my RS turbo and they were really helpfull :)

What you're referring to are the hard-lines (not the flexibles), aren't they?
You would be best off replacing them with nikasil lines. This is harder and more corrosion-resistant than copper.
I think running almost complete flexible lines would not be such a good idea. They're more prone to damage for a starter.
If you're doing a big refresh then you should go find some complete hubs off a Passat or similar and fit 256 or 280mm front brakes and a 22mm master cylinder.

There anywhere local to us for Nikasil? I've been pondering on using that..

i ran my lines through the car and then just tied them in place mate , less joint's no rust as they are all stainless and better pedle feel as there is no flex from rubbish old rubber flexi's
but no i re read his question i see what he was after :lipsrsealed:

Braided flexibles will give you a mild improvement, but unless you do all of six of them on the car you're unlikely to see much benefit over good, new OEM hoses.
I'm not sure where you could get nikasil lines from around Bristol, Beavis. You're the guy with the trade contacts

awesome, I want to do a brake overhaul when I've got money and this lot might be useful as I'm only in sheff!

a bit ago i went to a motor factors and bought some brake pipe and got offered copper or copper/nickel and got advised to use copper/nickel as it was harder and more resiliant to rust so i bought the copper/nickel
so is this the same as nikasil stuff if so i t should be available from any motor factors
-
yeh the copper/nickel stuff is better but it is usually more expensive one of my mechanic mates just replaced his brake lines on his car and he used copper/nickel and he said that it was very difficult to bend it by hand compared to the normal copper stuff, i reckon hes just a weakling

it is more rigid than copper but it is only a couple of quid more

Thanks for the help guys. Passat hubs? Off which year car? I've already fitted a 22mm master cylinder. Is it possible to get a bigger servo?
