While cleaning the car at the weekend (see http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=95750.0) I found a small crack in the front bumper. No idea how or when it happened as its not very noticeable, it's probably been there since I bought the car. Any ideas on what could be done to fix it? Is it likely to get worse if left alone?

Pretty gutting mate. Think it's worse coz you don't know whether it's new or old. At least then you'd be able to blame yourself/somebody else.
Hope you get it sorted soon. Might be worth giving the car another look over to make sure there's nothing else amiss.

Cheers mate, I had a good check round the rest of the car and can't find anything amiss. I'm hoping that it can be melted back together or glued without disturbing the paintwork which is surprisingly unbroken in the area of the crack. I would have though there would be some sign of an impact which caused the fracture. Anyway the rest of the car is immaculate, even the monza II's are perfect which makes me think the previous owner had them replaced under warranty.

Hmmmm - I'd say that either the bumper has taken an impact, roughly where the orange reflection is in your pic, or somebody has been really cack handed when trying to remove the centre lower grille.
The can be plastic welded, but the bumper will need removing first.

Is it just me or does it look like there is paint overspray in the joining above the crack for about 2"?
Could it possibly be a previous repair that's broken open? :undecided:

I think you'r right. There is overspray at the join of the shiny black number plate section of the grill - time for kip!

 just what i didn't need.. I'll have a good look at it in the daylight to see if i can see any sign of previous damage.
