Great, all I need! Getting prices now for a replacement. TUrned out of a side road and accelated then nothing, just high revs. A good man helped me push the old gal round the corned where I could park it up. Of all places I got stuck in the bus lane so may get a fine aswell
Anyway, will get it sorted not the end of the world!
-
no bang or clattering ???
sure it ain't summet else like the clutch ???
-
utting mate, you shouldn't get a ticket for the bus lane if you've broken down though. You had no choice!
I had to contest one when I used a bus lane to let an ambulance through and they let me off.

Have you done any investigating yet?
As mentioned above could be the clutch or maybe a cv joint that has let go.

I think the rattling and the gearbox oil on the floor gave it away mate. Still gutted, why is it you have some spare cash and then something happens! Getting more pi5sed of now.
-
same happened to me you sure ur drive shaft hasnt snapped have a look mate.

Ok, how will I know if it's that?
Cheers

One shaft flapping about. Although when I did it on my mini it actually broke inside the CV joint so it wasn't visible.
Jack the front of the car up and put it in first at idle. If the wheels turn your gearbox is fine.

Ok mate, will drag it home first. Get it into my garage.
I love old cars, they have so much charector! Don't get that from the passat, I hate it being reliable! lol
-
 gutted sounds the diff made an exit through the gearbox case
-
my clutch suddenly went in july... VERY bad timing (just lost my other job)
and that suddenly let go under acceleration/gave out a rattle aswell
might it be the diff?

I've busted two boxes on Golfs.
Here's the last effort.

Right, got the car up onto axle stands and done as Horney said. Engaged gear and the wheels rotated. I took some pictures of the offside -

I don't know much about the transmission, but that don't look right :undecided:

buggered
technical speak

Inner CV joint looks to have gone, not too bad a job you need a spline drive socket 8mm I think. remove the hub nut (awkward twunt) poss 31 32mm socket. undo suspension strut and the track rod, ball joint then reverse the above.
-
you be lucky there, just a cv joint.
-
just seen this Martz - if you need a hand at all let me know  your only half an hour away and i off all week
-
You know what mate, I may just well take you up on that. I would need some assistance as 'I ain't gotta fooking clue' lol
Will IM ya fella.
-
neither do I , but i can cheer you on and take piccies as required
-
You're lucky that stayed put. With the rotation of the wheels, that could have let go completely and beaten everything around it into submission.
-
did you get it fixed fella's ???
any funny piccy's ???

Fecking car! b'stard cnuting thing! Anyone one know any mechanics local to me that won't rape me? Tried my best to sort it but just can't do it, should stick to pen pushing I guess! lol
Took my passat for a 80K service and a out CV boot, £430???????? I told him (VW Specialist) to do a basic service so were down to £190. Why do cars eat all your hard earned dough?
-
Where are you?
-
I am next to Heathrow Terminal 4 mate.

If it'll wait until the evening of Friday 14th I'm in Reading that afternoon anyway....... other than that it's a bit of a hike from Bristol.

Anyway he got the driveshaft away and it was messy! Pics tomorrow.

The driveshaft on the right where the part joins the box (front of it) looks a bit fecked insides are hanging out, anyway, he reckons should not be too bad so not to worry just yet! YIKES!
Or I guess I could follow this? :undecided:

Probably worn out, which caused it to come apart, judging by what DH taught me the other week.. The more worn they are the more tricky they are to keep together just in your hands and all it seemed! Bloody tihngs rolling aboot everywhere
