Title: Is DSG and smoothing box worthwhile??
Post by: ABOO on 22 October 2008, 21:01
Have just replaced my filter for Green cotton, and was planning on smoothing airbox and replacing feed with dsg mod. Got me thinking then though, is it really worthwhile over just changing filter? Has anyone logged how much difference it actually makes to airflow?

Cheers, Kev....

its not a mission it was literally just me,

take off front bumper,
take out airbox / remove standard pipe
remove passenger side headlight (can never remember which is o/s and n/s)
undo bolt holding batt down, remove battery(this gives you enough clearance to remove the standard tray
replace with DSG tray,
dremel the air box so new DSG pipe is a snug fit and reverse the above

I changed my filter the other day.  That alone I can see a difference from, granted it's just a nicer noise, but it gives the impression of something more!  te woman is Awesome told me I could get around 4mpg more as well.  At first I took her comment with a pinch of salt.  But I'd say there is a small difference in fuel economy actually

Tbh I dont really want to do a lot to. Only things I really want to do is colour code and remap. Cant remap till April and am looking into a chap from thsi forum giving me a price on colour codeing. She doesnt need modding, shes pretty as she is :)

Was thinking about new wheels, but I cleaned her at the weekend and have fallen back in love with the Monzas.

We should get together a group to have R-Tech maps...

Whats the chances of them finding out? I fitted a full stainless system to my saxo VTS and the lamber sensors went on the exhaust system and they still covered it under warranty. VW may be more on the ball but I doubt they would even notice.

My impression is if my engine when pop or anything like that as soon as they plugged in to my ECU they would know its been remapped and tell me push my back car home. Somone prove me wrong?

its difficult as they have to PROVE it was the remap that caused the failure - it becomes a tedious process as you'll claim its one thing, they'll claim its the map etc etc

I'd just wait mate. gives you more to look forward to, and it's not worth the risk really.

Alan - PM SteveP - he's got a Richter remap on his ED30 which was done by his VW Dealer!! they honour his warranty too
