Ever since the timing, leads and coil has been replaced the car sometimes stalls when the revs drop between changing gears. The other problem is that the car seems sometimes hunts when hot sitting in traffic or standstill.....
Can any1 please help.... I have checked for vacume leaks and the only outcome was the air intake pipe going onto the throttle body has is slightly split where the jubilee clip sits...
Anyw suggestions...
Thanks

I'd check the ISV. Some ppl will alter the timing slightly to compensate for this being broken.

I have checked the ISV, by removing the pipe going to the main intake and the car cuts out, which means the ISV is running if i am not wrong...
It only happens when the car is warm.... funny one that...

Hi
What engine have you got.
-
give the ISV a nice clean with petrol. let it soak overnight in petrl then in the morning give it a clean with a small brush or something.
-
check the flying saucers rubber grommet (on the head)... i may have split and you may not have noticed it

Hey....
Sorry about the late reply... been working out of London....!
The ISV is new and checked if it is working, by remoding the rubber pipe leading from it to the air intake pipe and it cuts out and the ISV starts buzzing, which is an indication sign that it works....
Chris you mentioned the flying saucer grommet. Where is that? sorry for being a dumb nut...lol
Thanks mate...

If all that was changed was the timing, coil and leads etc. I would follow the 16v idle setup guide in the maintenance section, as presumably your CO2 needs re-setting to match the revised timing.
After that your into a trial-and-error situation to find the cause of the problem. The most common culprits include:
1) ISV unit needs cleaning
2) Air leak
3) Idle switch has broken
After that there are LOADS of other possibilities. Check out this master list I made:

Injectors are screwed. Get new ones. Use Bosch as they are the VAG part but in a different box and cheaper. Even it doesn't cure the problem, injectors only last till 80,000 and then the spray pattern starts going wrong. At low revs the spray pattern can be more of a dribble hence your rough idle and stalling.
Also check the lifter pump as well.
Both are possibilities. My 16v had a the same problem after a full rebuild and change of everything. The only thing we missed were the injectors. Replaced them and the engine was a completely different animal.

Injectors are screwed...
Also check the lifter pump as well...
Good suggestions to add to the list, but not the most likely culprits by a long shot. I would definitely try the other things first before assuming your injectors are faulty etc.

We had same problem after the rebuild. Heaven knows what it was like before the rebuild as it wouldn't even start.
Rough idling, stalling when hot, was all down to shot injectors. Took us weeks to find that out.

My valver started doing this and it turned out to be a vacuum leak, check all the pipes
