Hi Chaps
I have a totally original runout model 8v and want to keep it that way.
Unfortunately some scrote stole my Stereo some time ago and I've never replaced it. Anyway I've got bored looking at a hole in the dash and wonder if any one can tell me what should be there and if any one can help me source one?
The car is a 1992 gti 8v runout model rainbow interior etc etc. What Stereo should it be??? On this particular model was the Stereo still an option or was it standard? If it was an option I'd quite happily blank the hole over with the proper blanking plate.... and again anyone got one?
Also despite new belts everywhere, in the rain I always get bad Alternator and PAS belt squeel and slippage. Should there have been some kind of splash guard under the engine and around the bottom pulleys There's nothing there and wonder if it was pulled off by a service center years ago and never replaced?
Again if so can anyone help me source replacement(s)?
Ummmm ahh also drivers door external handle has suddenly gone incredibly stiff. Befoer I start pulling door cards off etc, any pointers on this, is it the handle ,catch mechanism or are these renowned for binding etc?
Oh by the way, 180,000 hard driving and still on the original clutch!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone beat that?
Cheers
Mark

Anyone with an original owners book who might be able to help?

the splash guard for the belts is obsolete im afraid, tried getting one from vw a few months ago, the undertray is from a diesel so not really original!
dunno about the stereo, i know the 87 golfs had a blaukpunkt tape deck in them

you don't need to take to door card's off to get the car :) just undo the screw inside the door shut and remove the trim form the outer handle and there is a second in there :) off she pop's :)
180,000 nope mine did 160,000 km's (about 100,000 miles) well done on the softy driving

Splash guard is part no. 191 825 250 A
I've got one sat right hereoff my 16v but can't remember how it attachs - I can't find the bolt holes! :embarassed: :embarassed:

Oh by the way, 180,000 hard driving and still on the original clutch!!!!!!!!!! Can anyone beat that?
that's because the 8v doesn't have enough power or torque to wreck clutches.

not exactly true - i consider myself a smooth driver (not a clutch wrecker) and my old 8v went through a clutch in 10k, was fitted by my ex`s old man who was/is an mot tester... the one i fitted after that lasted 2 days, then someone wrote off the car by hitting it up the rear

I've got the original Stereo and Hand book for mine, it only got taken out earlier this year with all the original wiring in place and unmolested :smug:
TBH I don't know if it is the original  It's a Panasonic jobby though and looks an 80's part.

Ive got a 1992 golf gti sales brochure tucked away which i can look in and find out what stereo should be fitted to it

If your car was ordered from the factory to include a radio/cassette, then it would have most probably have been a Blaupunkt, many dealers on the other hand though, did like to fit either Sony or Panasonic as an upgrade.. If you wanted to go for retro fitting though, then I'd go for the Blaupunkt, it'll be the one most likely to still work properly after all these years! they do come up on Ebay for next to nothing. and should look something like this, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v300/casadelshawn/radios20070131/DSC_0117.jpg
later models had smaller knobs

I've also got a totally standard runout 8v GTI. It came with a Panasonic CQ HO5EE fitted. I think this may have been an upgrade fitted by the dealer during PDI. It also came with an electric ariel which i know was not fitted as standard.
