Title: audio upgrade mk3 gti
Post by: hightower on 20 October 2008, 16:54
hi there

Im looking to upgrade my car audio because my speakers go into a mad crackle if i turn the

music if i like a song but i want to keep the interior looking factory spec.

Is there any company that does straight replacements for the golf old one out new one in

What i want to do is upgrade the whole lot from front to back inc something in the back for my kids.

i haven`t checked at the moment how many speakers there are in my golf.

can anybody help me on what to buy and what to leave alone.

basic list is

head unit inc dvd/music storage

quality speakers and tweeters

roof screen and games system (kids inc big kids my mates)

All to be nicely tucked away so it looks like vw did it.

It`s been along time since i`ve done this so i`m out of touch

cheers

6.5" components all round pretty much any speaker set is a direct replacement and fit behind the original grilles
as for the audio items you list
there are not many h/u's available with onboard storage kenwood do a h/u with built in 512mb storage the other option is a h/u
that will take a memory stick i have a 16gb memory stick on my kenwood and thats all i use
i would suggest nothing bigger than a 10.4 roof mount monitor directed do a very good one with wirelss headphones
the games console is up to you which one you choose
hope this helps a bit

My Ipod connects to the back of my head unit via a cable which comes through into the glove box. The ipod is then controlled by the head unit. Voila, 32 gig of storage!!

Same, Alpine 9880R is what I've got, it's great as it's green, matches the car and the lights inside. Works really well too! Much better than changing CDs all the time.

I think if you are going to go to all that trouble you need to add a sub aswell.
