Good job there... I've taken Mk2's apart like that but I'd be too scared with my Mk5... plus I have xenons - does that make it more complicated/dangerous?

Very nice mat, take it you do have to drain the cooling system too?
4hrs seems acceptable - might be tempted to do it myself.
-
You crazy Matt !!!!!!! i wouldn't have the balls !
good job though !!!!
Ps Mat how much did you say for the cooler and the 2 hoses ? can those 2 hoses be replaced with the Silicone upgrade ones ?
-

they have come in at £276 or £200 for ic as vw have changed part numbers on the hoses so have change dthe discount rate the dealers get but forge do the hoses and they are £112 for them
-
Matt what are your conclusions on the merits of this IC upgrade?
-
you mind if i come to urs after the RR day on saturday,
i wouldnt be able to do that :undecided:
-
Matt what are your conclusions on the merits of this IC upgrade?
i think the car is pulling smoother and is pulling abit harder and is spooling up faster, i will see what it does on the roller this weekendyou mind if i come to urs after the RR day on saturday,
i wouldnt be able to do that :undecided:
it is a big job and dont rush it and have a torx set and screwdrivers and a socket set handy  if i did it i would charge to do it  but not as much as some and i could only do it outside if the wheather is ok

Hmm, do you do home visits??
-
i will have a think this week and i will bring them with me on saturday
-
Mat, just being technical here, the oem IC seems to be secured to the hoses by clips.
With the S3 one, do you just put the hoses over the OC outlets and use jubilee clips to secure them?
-
these are the s3 hoses
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d122/mat138l/s3hoses001.jpg)
and these are golf ones
(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d122/mat138l/s3icinstall009-1.jpg)
they come with clips so no need to mess about
-
Could you list the part No required and any extra screws or fittings needed. Got a mate who works in audi parts dep so
should be able to get discount  does anyone know if its more difficult to remove xenon head lights than the standard
ones
thanks Mike
-
Great thread Mat. The "thought" of doing the job is actually more daunting than it actually is.
Good job there... I've taken Mk2's apart like that but I'd be too scared with my Mk5... plus I have xenons - does that make it more complicated/dangerous?
No. Providing you make sure the headlamps are actually switched off first of course!

S3 intercooler part numbers:
1K0 145 803 P - intercooler
1K0 145 832 L or S - conection hose right (double check the suffix)
1K0 145 834 AA - pressure hose left
N 908 170 03 - hex head bolt 6x17, qty 9 (I think these are correct)
Xenon headlamps have exactly the same fixings as the halogen ones.
Have a look in the Mk5 maintenance section of this forum, and you will find a "sticky" for free workshop manuals.
-
N 908 170 03 - hex head bolt 6x17, qty 9
TT are these available only from Audi or will VW use the same part number?
btw glad to see you posting again.

Thanks for the kind comments.
That part number (just like all the quoted numbers) is a "Volkswagen Group" part number, and can be ordered from an Audi, VW, Seat or Å koda dealer.

I know someone on here had a contact for getting the coolers/pipes, but if you need, Mike at http://www.vwspeed.co.uk (http://www.vwspeed.co.uk) has them easily to hand too. He's in the process of launching a new site, so if you can't find something email/ring instead.
Register on his site though uk-mkvs and you'll get a discount.

Yup, good comment Tony.
I did ask JV to set up an official discount with VW Speed for this forum too, but I think he is tied up with putting 50 pence pieces in the meter which power our server!

I think he only offers discount to users of sites he advertises on, so it does pay to be an active member of "the dark side".... not every Tom Richard and Harry can take advantage!!
BTW - he's only just got back from a long weekend at the 'Ring with me and a few others off the forum.. so don't worry if he's a bit slow, he'll be wading through thousands of emails!!
