Title: mk2 16v GTI cigarette lighter

Quick question,

Is the cigarette lighter socket of a mk2 16v GTI permanently live (i.e. works when ignition off)?

Might seem a silly question, but I have no way of testing, don't have a sat nav or phone charger and the actual lighter itself is long gone!

Yea I was wondering this, I left my Ipod in the car whilst I went in the house, engine off and everything, came out about half an hour later and it was still charging!!!!

I thought it went off with the ignition?

no cig lighter is always on :)
