Was absolutely knackered after set of nightshifts. Decided to visit family since I've got four days off. Drove up, no problems.
Reversed into garage and managed to scratch it for the second time. Over the bumper, driver side. Looked more like tiny mud splatter first but you can feel the paint scraped off. Wasn't paying attention when I was reversing because I was too worried about the other side.
TBH it doesn't look bad but it's there on both the top and bottom bits of the bumper. Looks like it can be blended in.
With all the crap happening to my car, either I should sell it and get something I don't mind knocking about, or maybe get reverse sensors + parking camera.
I'm too exhausted to care right now but I know when I look at it in the morning, I'll be gutted.
-
Don't sell - modify!
I can recommend either the sensors or the camera. I'd tip for the sensors if you don't mind the beeping the camera doesn't audibly warn you if you are getting too close although it does work well.

No - keep it. Don't work too hard and get it repaired. The winter's coming but there will be many days when the sun might be out and you'll only regret it if you don't have your GTI to drive
Oh and learn to park properly
Sorry, couldn't help it

Part of the problem is that this only ever happens when I come to visit the parents. They live in an old house designed when cars were much slimmer. The GTI is huge in comparison and barely makes it through the garage pillars.
Where I live now in dorset, the garage has no pillars or walls restricting the entrance plus the garage itself is a little wider.
As for work, it's a fixed rota so everyone does the same shifts over a four month period.
Will go get an estimate over the weekend.

simple answer, get the parents to move house!, end of problem!
Your bonkers to sell it stealth
-
Sell????? Thats just crazy talk... try driving round a nice crap courtesy car for a few day
You will be licking it before you drive it everytime!!

Stealth i have an inch either side of my wing mirrors and literally have to park it with in 1/2 inch of the buttress on the side so as i can get out still and be able to shut it.
Every time i do it without question i turn the radio off, remind myself of the consequences and really concentrate. If you find yourself losing position and getting a bit panicky just pull out and start again dont try and correct it in the garage.
As long as you really concentrate and take your time you should be ok. Me personally if i was finding it wasn't in my capability's then i would just find somewhere safe to park it.
Dont sell your car dude just learn from your mistakes.

don't sell - get the paint sorted - job's a good one
hit someone this morning and broke my front grill - well cheesed off but i won't be selling! Just won't be going out this weekend thats all

Do you need to park in their garage? i'm assuming that there is a driveway bit before the garage? what about just parking on that?
-
Get your parents to guide you into the garage!
Oh I just noticed that you said youd come back from a nightshift - so i guess they were fast asleep.
-
I'd just echo what the other guys have said Stealth! After all, you haven't had it that long have you?
-
stealth you have a very nice car and IMHO you would be mad to sell it.
Just get it fixed and try to move on.
Also think about the costs/loss you will incur if you try to sell in the current Market?

Nope - the front wheels of the car would be on the road! The area's a bit dodgy these days. The car could get scratched, vandalised, stolen etc.

Well I slept for about four hours (during a week of nights, I can only manage about four hours per night so I'm exhausted by the end) then drove up.

Two months.

The garage entrance is wide enough to allow the car through without touching the mirrors but the entire garage is a bit narrow - I can't open the door and get out coz there's only a six inch gap between the door and door frame when open. Never had this problem with the fiesta.
As for reversing, normally I'm fine so long as I pay attention. Back down south, the flat I live in has a garage not much wider at the entrance (though much wider inside) so I've been reverse parking into the garage ever since I've had the ED30. Just wasn't paying enough attention and a little too eager to get parked and go inside.

wasnt being funny, its just a bit stupid, who in their right mind would sell their car after owning it for 2 months, just because of a stupid small scratch that can be repaired very easily!!??
i scratch mine all the time, last one was reversing out of my drive, i think gaz saw it, but just get it repaired.

I think if someone crashed into me i would want to sell the car. It is right what they say in that a car never feels the same again after its been crashed into.
But if i did the damage myself, then its only my own fault, so i can't really justify selling a car because of my own silly actions.
I think you've just had some bad luck. Perhaps line the walls of the garage with some carpet /foam? And also store some in the garage to put around the entrance pillars just before you are about to put the car in the garage?
