how much bhp should i get out of the following mods on my 1.6 75bhp mk 2??
1.webber carb
2.k&n panel filter
3.8v gti cam
4.8v gti manifold + exhaust system and sports back box??
wanna no if its worth doing??
-
why dont you just buy an 8valver? ???
the bhp increse isnt goin to be noticible untill you do some head work :P
then it still wouldnt be that much,
buy a valver mate! ;)
-
cant asw insurance wont let me, wot head work would i need to do??
-
in short: enlarge the valves and smooth off all the edges then match the manifolds
-
Dont enlarge the valves, it wil be as rough as a bears ass to drive.
Just by fitting the weber you can expect upto 10% more power, with a gti cam, exhaust manifold and system you could be looking at 90bhp.
Gas flowing is an art, dont let people kid you into thinking its all a matter of grind this and enlarge that, It aint..
Remember, the quickest mk 1s were 1.6s. vw fitted the 1.8 and gained 2bhp.
Do the mods right and enjoy.

can i use a 1.8 carb on my 1.6?? will there be any side effects??
-
What exactally is a webber carb anyway?
-
its a replacement carb made by webber, its meant to be a lot better on fuel and performance than the pieburg carb

Isnt the insurance is going to be about the same after you declare the mods? Ring round for some quotes or wait a while till you can afford to insure a GTI.
Best advice I've ever had is to save, get what you really want and dont blow money on the second choice, 'cos you'll only regret it.
-
nah once insurance drops enough im after a corrado ;D

Hey Rik,
How did you get on with the bits and pieces I sold you? Have you got them fitted yet? Are they ok? How'd it all go?
-
yeah its all fitted, had no end of problems with it stalling though i couldnt find the problem for time and nearly gave up driving it, turned out to be the advance and retard pipe was on the wrong bit of a valve so it kept sucking rather than blowing or the other way round, just gotta get the carb reset and i should be laughing, the exhaust system i had to have the down pipe welded to the front mid section as i bent it when the front engine mount went and had a tiny hole welded in the mid section and now all is cool, just waiting to set the carb and ill be happy again, cheers rich oh and golfgal
