Title: Coolant Draining
Post by: MikeGTI... on 15 October 2008, 19:39
Can anyone here advise on the best way to drain off and flush out/replace the engine coolant on a AUM engine?

Thanks

Mike

Is there a plug on the bottom of the rad? If so where about is it?  Will I need to remove the splash guard to get proper access to this?

Cheers again

Yep the lower front of the radiator IIRC you dont have to remove anything.

Go to VW and get some G12+ coolant to top up with about the same price as anywhere but it comes with anti corrosives in it :afro:

Ok ive located the tap now, easyily do-able without taking any parts off.  Will drain it over the next few days me thinks.  Be interesting to know how much that stuff is from VW?  Also is it worth buying some coolant flush?  and run that in the system for 50 or so miles?

IIRC it was £5 for 1.5L, Not worth buying flush IMO just run a hose through it.

Does the tap at the bottom of the rad empty ALL 5 litres of coolant?

My car's come back from my gimp of a mates' garage with some kind of 'no frills' coolant in it!

no off the tap you only get about 2 litres it's awkward to drain it alll out on rhyso's i had to remove the oil cooler pipes too, on my aum and 2.0 i only got it all out by removing the rad pipes from the block
