Title: clunking in reverse

how do.

my friend at work has got a mk4 golf 2.0l 2002 reg.
she says everytime it goes into reverse, she hears a clunking sound but only when she brakes.  also its intermidate. 
sounds to me like a bush somewhere along the line can anyone help?

wishbones, driveshaft or cv joint, need to get underneath have alook for any play.
