ok, I need to get my old Monza II refurb'd - not looking to spend loads and get them re-diamond cut as this will still only last so long so options are what colour...
Gloss Black
Matt Black
Grey (anthracite)
Silver
One option I though of was leave the inner dark grey bits alone and just get the alloys painted so looking similar to how they look now - not sure how difficult this is to do - keep the line when masking up...??
What are your thoughts.....you know you'll all have to do this eventually ;)
-
....
This is on my list of to-do's.
I've visited Pristine and been advised that it's both very expensive and tricky to do a good job of 'two-tone' Monzas (inner grey bits). They strip and refurb the whole wheel. I'll be going for powdercoated "Sterling half face" - A bright, but not too bright, gunmetal which is silver over black. Anthracite is much darker.
Cost about £420 all inclusive. 3-day turnaround.
:afro:
-
Got any examples/pics of the outcome? Like the sound of the colour - obviously not ruling out getting them done properly at some point, this is just a 'quick fix' for the time being.
Getting them painted by a local paint shop as I know a guy there.
-
In the wrong section.
Please ask topher where it should go.

LOL - your not too upset really
Anyway, what about this ...
Smoked Chrome

In fact tempted now to get the CH's done like that :smug:
-
BMW stuff is quality. No filliform corrosion there.
-
I like the smoked chrome colour

From experiance the smoke chrome isn't easy to do and not many offer it.
What about having them done MK6 style? Have them re-cut and have the insets done in black. Would go well with your car Neg. A1 wheels in Wolverhampton would be able to do this for you
-
Your right it would look good but - just not convinced in the price of diamond cutting again and then if they will corrode after a few months due to the salt we use on the roads in the UK!
Although high power silver + black might be a close second to it ...
-
If you're going to diamond cut them again - use clear powder coat instead of lacquer, it's much tougher.

My Huffs with the two colours cost me £100 per corner. I'd love a set of original Monza's on my ED30 as when the sunlight hits them they just look so  (I would deffo get the insets done in black though )
-
I know what your saying and £65 a corner re-cut doesnt sound too bad but I dont need 2 sets of pristine wheels ;)

....Sounds a good idea, but is it really as protective against the dreaded and virilant white worm as totally powdercoating them without the diamond-cut?
Having fully experienced the white worm, I do not want to have to regularly spend money on refurbing my wheels and I love the Monzas as a design exclusive to the GTI.
-
Yup. It actually chemically bonds to the wheel and with it being plastic, it's much more resilient where as lacquer is brittle by comparison.
It will be a tad thicker on application, so keep it out of the spigot - I didn't and my RC's were tight as hell!!
-
....
Any pics of your Monzas with it done please, Tony?
-
My Monza's are still as they left the factory, so I've not refurb'd them - but I've had a few sets of wheels powdered in the past and never had any issues with them... it's just clear instead of coloured, unlike lacquer which isn't the same as paint.
Here's a thread with a home-refurb of something similar using clear powder.

Anyone done a set gloss white yet?
....Not seen any yet. Good idea - White wheels look quite racey.

didn't think i liked black Monzas until i seen the black Gti in the OH MY thread
then again i think you'd get away with a bright silver face and keeping the grey inners
17s dont look that different at a glance and keeps the overall iconic look
