Right all I have been bored lately so I need a project of some type. One I was thinking of was running different RON fuels and different petrol stations and logging the results etc and giving a write up of the findings, any other ideas on projects I could do??
Suggest away!!
-
interesting
ideally you want the same test conditions
same journeys for every type of fuel
keep to the same speeds if possible
do some data logging with say 4 full throttle runs for comparison

On the subject of RON (who the f**k is RON lol)
I have been using the normal unleaded stuff for a while, well since it was cheaper to buy ale than petrol!
last night at RAF brize norton my petrol warning came on and i knew i have another 20 odd miles in her to get to the petrol station
Filled up with BP ultimate 98 RON.
It makes such a difference on how the engine sounds/performs
AND for some reason when i sit at 70mph + ~10, i get better MPG than i did on 95 RON
normally at around 80 i get 34 MPG
Now i get 38 MPG, so i think i will be sticking with BP ultimate from now on
-
mmm i only get 24 out of my 2.0? do you work on VC10 at brize by anychance

Should get way more thay that? :undecided:
-
filled up with 51 lts, reset trip i get 300 miles out of a tank so 51 divide by 4.5 = 11.33 gallons 300 divide by 11.33 = 26.4MPG uinless my math is wrong

What do other 2.0 get then? I average at least 34mpg.

Yeah i think it might be this too mate, mine lately has been going crazy and ive been running lean sometimes. not a problem tho as im changing the maf on the turbo build :D
have you tried cleaning it out dai

On motorways, I can get around 36-38, but around town, i get about 28-30
Should definately do the project to see if there is much of a difference!

My mates got a 2.0 mk4luke and he went to see some bird on Saturday said he put £100 in and done 400 miles I know he was prob doing a fair old rate of speed there and back but I thought that was quite alot of fuel to do or is that about right?

You could tour the country painting and polishing bits for us?

The problem with the 2.0 is it isnt powerful enough for the heavy MK4 meaning if you want to make progress you have to put your foot down even more. I was getting about 28mpg on my commute up the wharf in my 2.0 MK4. In the 2.0T MK5 I get 32 as I dont need to put my foot anywhere near as far to make the same sort of progress. If that makes sense.
-
yeah that makes sense, could have something to do with it have to put a lot more throttle on. plus RE: Rich , maf sensor?? it feels a bit like it is missfiring very slightly sometimes would that point at maf

if you do do this project, try this stuff too

I will probably buy:
Tesco
Sainsburys
BP
Shell
As they are the main ones by me. I will do both 95 and Higher Octane Fuel including BPS 102 if I can find some, not seen any around by me, but I am sure if they bring it in at all BPs Hilton Park services will have it quite quickly.
-
im pretty sure you can scrap the 102 octane stuff, if its £2 plus a litre! i doubt anybody unless at santapod or Silverstone is gonna use it
