Hi guys.
I was going through my loom and cleaning it up/repairing cut wires/stripping out cr@p and found that I am missing some connectors. A short trip to my local breakers gave me nothing. Wondering if anyone had some knocking around from a engine swap or maybe someone knows of a website/phone number where I could find some. Also being VW I was thinking that I can probably just get them from another car e.g. Jetta/Golf MK3 or something else? Any info would be appreciated.
Cheers.

what kind of plugs are you after? the quick release type with the metal clip are called 'junior timer' (yes really!) which should help you track down an online supplier :)
-
Vehicle wiring products have an excellent range, you could also try vw you might be suprised by the price. I need a connector for a window motor, I will price it up when I get home to give you an idea what it would be from the dealer.

Do you know exactly which connector it is? They are all cheap, even the huge 7 pin connector to the ignition amplifier module is only £4.50 from VW, the 25 pin ECU connector is £8 including all the gaskets and fittings!
-
Brilliant, cheers lads!
Looking online now and going into VW later to see what I can lay my hands on. Incidentally I need a reverse light switch connector and one for the water temp sender nearest the front of the head in the top of the flange (at least I think it's a temp sender...!).
-
yeah thats the junior timer one! what a stupid name

Just got off the phone from VW and I quote:
'We don't keep any of that old stuff in stock'. I had to smile. He checked the database and apparently he can't get any because they're obsolete. Fare enough I suppose. I'll just have to marry up the connectors now as don't have a Scooby which connector clicks into which place! Rubjonny, cheers for telling me about the temp sender but do you happen to know which connector will plug into the reverse light switch...?!
-
if its a post 90 one its the same as the ones above, pre-90 they just have 2 spade plugs! Unless of course its a REALLY old one with the multi plug, in which case I dont know what type that is?
-
Wicked, nice one. Yeh it's a 91 8V. Just to confirm I should get a set of 4145 clips with matching boots, that right?
-
yes indeed, the boot isnt stricly required but it looks nice!
edit: I'm not sure if the pins from these will fit the vag plug if thats what you mean? if oyu mean you're buying the whole plug then yeah thats ok
-
nice one, cheers again for that. It'll be nice to have some reverse lights for once!
EDIT::To comment on the above I need the clip that the wire goes into, then clips onto the top of the sender, not the sender side itself. Also just need the wire bit of the clip for the reverse light switch...does that make sense...?!
-
the temp plug bit i cant figure out what you're on about, maybe a pic will help? reverse plug you mean you want the metal clip that holds on the plug right? If so scrappers a great source for bits like that if one is nerby!
-
OK no time to take photo last night so here is my attempt at drawing. I think you'll agree it's amazing!!

right so you need the plug then, I see! If you only need the clip for the plug on the reverse switch, pinch it from the temp sensor plug after you put a new one on
-
But that's the point, it isn't there
My loom looks like something out of a SAW movie and a lot of the connectors have been ripped off and the wires crimped and then re-attached to the temp senders/reverse switch/general electrics in the engine bay. This is leading to several problems, one of which is the electrics in my car having a mind of their own! Also this means that most of my senders/switches have had there sockets mangled beond repair to accomodate the 'modifications' so I've got a nice new set, but obviously I need to get new connecting bits for all those loose wires flying around so I can just plug everything together.
Explaining this stuff is actually harder than it seems, or am I making a meal of it...!? :undecided::laugh:
-
by 'clip' do you mean 'plug', when I say clip I'm talking about the metal bit on the plug that holds the plug on the socket :)
-
By Plug/clip I'm talking about the same thing, which isn't much help from me really.
Ok lets start over.
Plug = connecting bit I need in the picture that the wires attach to, not the little bit of metal that holds the sender/switch in place.
I need a plug for the a few temp senders, including the one I've previosuly mentioned on the flange. I've checked the others and they're all the same connectors.
I also need a plug for the reverse light switch.
-
right ok, if it was me id be in the local scrappy with some side cutters!
-
LOL, fair point. I've been down to two now and both had no golfs or anything similar. Recon I'll just hunt around some more. Bound to find some somewhere.
Cheers for your help, and patience!!!

dont be afraid to look at other models, its not a vag specific thing. oh and dont forget SEAT also made by VW so good source ;)
