planning a trip to the 'ring????
ive fancied doing it for the last few years and will defo be doing it next year some time, would anybody else be interested in going on a road trip through germany?
just showing a bit of interest really, seeing if anybody fancies it
-
I would Joe!
Was planning to combine it this year while we were at Spa for the GP but as the date has been moved we can't go now!
So yeh, count me in!
-
We go after the TT races in June.
Stay at a guesthouse, don't camp.
We were fined 600 Euros for cutting three branches off a tree and burning them, 200 Euro per branch.
-
Funny
I was just on the RMA Website to see if they have any 2009 dates for Spa. Me and my mates were going to do the ring and Spa whilst doing a weeks driving through Europe.
I quite fancy a bit of Eau Rouge flat out
-
 seems abit of interest already.
-
I'm going on Friday till Tuesday... get in!!

We did too while it was the middle weekend in September, now it's August bank holiday weekend

10 day forcast is dry, temp in the low teens and possibility of fog come sunrise - you take a risk with the weather at this time of year, but it's much quieter.
So yes, I'll be doubling up on the Y-Fronts and taking immodium!
-
1 more interested here
Date and weather permitting.
-
when do you think we would be ready to make a date?
-
Since i'm being constantly moaned at for there being too much unrelated tat and tale in the MK5 section, are you going to spit your dummy again if I move this to the trackdays section jroe?
-
no i wont moan, but can it not be in both places? nobody is going to go and look in there apart from people who race track days, where as this is for everyone who wants to attend and most will not be race/track day drivers. + this section is busiest so will get most interest here! may aswell advertise an idea where most people will see it instead of it just getting lost.
if id have posted this in trackdays section id be lucky if 1 person had replyd, 2nd page already so theres obv interest in here
-
Yep I know why you did it. It's not your fault these guys refuse to venture out of the comfy mk5 zone, but let's not make it any easier for them!
-
when do you think we would be ready to make a date?
Organisation would take a while and so it would probably be best going when the weather has reverted back to spring mode around May :undecided:

-
I would be up for this!
-
good stuff :afro:
need to get it back in the mk5 section now as NOBODY is going to read it in here!!!
-
they will if i keep bumping the topic moved notice
-
well theres been loads of interest in here ehh topher  2hr 30min and nobody has replied,
also if you plan on bumping a locked thred, then why not just have this one in its place......then people who are interested will bump it. dont really understand why its in here anyway, i see this section as being for people who do lots of track days and want advise on track cars and stuff like that, not for this!!?? even the people who use this section wouldnt be interested   and ive been a member for about 14 months and never look in here................this is gay
-
156 views here, compared to 50 something on the redirected thread (which even has the theme in the topic title unlike this) .. numbers speak for themselves.
-
56 will be me! the other 100 are from other perople who dont dare post
-
I dared to post!! I like trackdays!!

And I can confirm that I'll be at the 'ring two or more times in 2009.
And I wouldn't have spotted this in the G5 section.
And I know how you can get tickets at 15Euros per single lap (this year), which is cheaper per lap than a 15 lap ticket (ideal for those on their first time out). And the guy will buy unused tickets back at that price.
And I can recommend a good, not too dear hotel, under half a mile from the entrance to the circuit, run by English guys.
And I know how to get to pretty much all the good spectating points.
If anyone's planning their first trip and wants to go in summer, then I can recommend either the weekend of Le Mans, or the UK Grand Prix.... Let's just say it cuts down the number of Prix.....
Oh and I'll probably be trailering my car out there for the trips, so if mine doesn't give out or get binned and anyone else's does then there's a handy insurance policy.
Just don't underestimate what you're going to drive - a couple of weekends ago I saw at least two UK cars taken away written off - both on first trips, one on first lap. If you're going out to 'beat Clarkson' then you're probably going for the wrong reasons and going into the armco.
I've only been out there 6-7 times, but if you want help organising things I am happy to assist, if you want.... IMO it's better to point people to a hotel and a ferry company and suggested crossing time and get them to book themselves - avoids getting mucked about.

i'd be up for this. didnt get to go this year due to financial (job) issues, so would love to go in 2009. i take it i will need to sort out track day insurance? any pointers? (looking at diamond hell)

No, your normal road cover insures Tourist Fahren days at the 'ring, third party and provided there are no specific exclusion clauses in your policy document. Track day insurance will NOT cover TF - the 'ring operates as a toll road on these sessions.
DO NOT CALL YOUR INSURER AND ASK IF YOU ARE COVERED ON THE 'RING. The automatic and 'sensible' (read 'risk adverse') answer is 'no'.
Do the research yourself (read your documents) and if there is an issue, start calling other insurers and asking them to provide their policy documents for review before you take out a policy. Any normal, diligent consumer would do this, to ensure that the insurer gives them an appropriate level of cover for their needs. If they refuse to let you see the documents, they're probably not worth pursuing for cover.
Once you've nailed insurance for your vehicle you need to get the card that replaced the E111 form, for EU health cover, plus consider some travel insurance, which will get you home if you're immobilised or bed-ridden due to injury. After that I'd recommend replacing your AA cover with ADAC membership - it's EU-wide and cheaper, more comprehensive cover. If people are serious about this and want more detailed information, just ask.
Starting this early for 2009 gives you time to sort all of these things out in a relaxed and sensible manner - insurance and AA as they come up for renewal, rather than having to cancel things, or doubling up, which could get expensive.

Gonna go to the 'ring in 2009 with a car that's fit for the drive, then Steve?

of course

thanks DH.
my (adrian flux arranged) breakdown cover will recover me from across the EU, but will definately check out insurance small print. if the 'ring is legally considered to be a 'toll road' then i cant see any problem with the insurance either (which also covers me across the EU). best to be safe than sorry i guess.

ALWAYS check the small print.
Check your breakdown cover, too. I would be willing to wager they won't recover off the 'ring. ADAC will at this time and when you look at the general cover provided by them you'll see that they really are the Rolls Royce of EU recovery companies.
The bad news is that as soon as you drive on the 'ring you're on the margins of EU law and you'll be driving through regular grey areas, too.
The good news is that provided you're not driving like a c0ck you'll be having an absolute ball and you'll be worrying more about the 911s tearing past you far more than whether you're insured or not (provided you've checked that in advance).
-
adrian flux breakdown is absolutely fine for the ring. it's provided through some dutch company that i can't remember their name at the present moment.
-
Joe, been wanting to go for AGGGES ! I will check back to see if anything materialises but I am up for it.
-
good stuff mate
im defo going next year, could do with putting this thred somewhere where somebody will actually read it, then may get abit more interst
-
Give it a rest, this is the proper place for it. If you want to advertise it then put a link in your sig like everyone else does.

coooooool idea!!! cheers :afro: didnt think of that
-
Joe, when do you plan on going next year? As in what month?
-
I'll be going numerous times (5+ weekends hopefully) with a golf as a tow/damp weather car for the bike, may see you out there.
-
Spooky................................ Me & the missus have already begun talks about doing this trip in April/May.
We're looking at taking the 'Norfolklines' ferry from Dover to Dunquerke which cost about £40-45, & staying at some Formula One Hotels (if you can call them that, LOL!!!) to keep costs down.
ps Diamond Hell - I'd be very interested some 15 Euro lap tickets, please!! :afro:
-
Still interested in this, but me and a few pal's at work are looking to go during the Le Mans weekend in June as it's supposed to be a bit quieter
-
Makes a lot of sense to do that. I might well see you there that weekend.
Look out for the flying shed.
-
I AM UP FOR IT, WHAT DATES.
-
Soon as the dates are published (probably January) I'll be setting when I'm going out there in 2009 and I'll post a link to the opening times, too.
-
-
I'll come toooooooo.
-
should be a good doo, i know theres a lot of us mk5ers up for a mass convoy. will be coooool as hell and this WILL be happening next year!

Mass convoys are a very bad idea - they draw attention from the police in Europe as they don't like that sort of thing and generally cause trouble.
As I've already said, I'll post up when I'm going with DannyP and possibly Sharpie (who might get out on the track next year) and various others, when the times are released (January). We'll be making at least a couple of trips out there next year.
-
would be good to meet sharpie
-
Bring a tape recorder - you can record what he says and then play it back at half speed to try and understand it.

-
 ring is open on my bday
plan : win lottery, rob bank or ransome an oil tanker . march looks a good time to play
-
im up for going
-
you got a seat spare for me? my car wont make it
-
Why on earth wouldn't your car make it?
I suspect the £310 Seat Toledo I bought recently would make it and make it round a few times, quite happily.
It doesn't have to be anything fandango, it's more important that it's just continent fluids-wise and nothing's about to die.
Just check it over carefully, replace anything that is towards the end of it's life and get in the car with a wallet stuffed full of Euros (more expensive than last year).
Given that all you have out there is third party cover at the most, there's a strong argument for taking a cheap, but well-maintained car out there - if you bin it, you walk away from it without a complete wallet-massacre.
-
it would make it, but its getting on a bit now, the old girl is a bit slack if i get the bits i need done then sure it would
-
Any one going on 9th may to 11th may 2009? I am. Sat evening session , full day sun, half day mon
-
Depends on circumstance, but maybe if things are going well.
