lol no probs yeah undo the sump plug then all the oil will drain off. Next remove the oil filter.
When you replace the oil filter you need to put some oil around the rubber seal on the new filter. Do it up hand tight.
Replace the sump plug. (get a new one only £1.20 from vw)
Refill with a good oil like castrol magnatec

You dont have to fit a new sump plug but you should.
I wouldnt use engine flush, just my opinion tho.
You can buy a tool to remove the oil filter about £5 .

Can you just put a socket to the end of the oil filter? looks like a socket would fit but could be wrong

Warm the oil up before you change it* - It comes out quicker, then.
*Obviously, don't get it red hot or you may burn yourself!!

The filter just twists off, but it's easier to undo with those filter wrenches. Only put the new one back on hand tight, though. (Before you do, smear a thin layer of oil around the new filter - it helps get the seal.

Whereabouts does the filter go?

Just to clarify how tight does the sump nut need to be so as not to damage sump? Is it 20 on my trusty torque wrench?
-
30 Nm and no more!!!
-
30, glad I haven't done mine yet then. They'd have been a trail of Synta Gold behind me

looking at this thread is there anyone mechanically minded that can assist you? not sure about the 1.4 engine but if your talking about the small nut on the filter, thats usually on the fuel filters (not sure without looking at a 1.4)

I tend to tighten the filter a little with the wrench as I've seen hand tight filters leak oil.

You can get some oil filters with a bolt on the end for use with a socket.
