Title: Turbo whistle.
Post by: Spurgey on 11 October 2008, 21:25
I'm looking to get a 1.8 GTi Mk IV as a second car.  Took two out today one (57K)had a noticable but not particularly loud whistle which I assumed was usual. The next a newer 180bhp (95K) that I tried  didn't.  What's usual?  Anything to worry about the other one which in every other respect was pristine (loads of receipts, cambelt + tensioner done) indicating a well loved car - cleaner than my Mk V!!.

I've scanned the topics but didn't really find anything too useful - anyone help?

Normal to hear the turbo spinning up, Does the first one have an air intake upgrade?

Some KO3 "S" turbo's came with a built in silencer & apparently there's no way of identifying which ones do i.e. by part no's.

So a whistling turbo nothing to really worry over then?  As I said in every other respect the car was well looked after.
