Title: Stage 2 revo done today
Post by: luca on 10 October 2008, 23:21
I went down to ADS in preston today to have the milltek downpipe put on 2.75" same as vtechs and stage 2 revo and a few logs to make sure the car was running perfectly. The difference is night and day, wasnt expecting the difference to be so noticable but it really is. It may be because i had the downpipe done at the same time but my god it pulls like FOOK  .
It just feels like non stop grunt throughout the revs even near the redline the boost and power is very strong.
The map is more aggressive but the car feels smoother to drive for some reason . Dave at ADS really has worked his magic and i cant recommend him enough. He even lent me his revo'd vrs for the day
Before taking the car there i was concerned about the 08 cars misfire problem, dave checked it for me on various runs and it was showing no signs whatsoever even after stage 2  what a releif . He also said the car was running perfectly now and when i get the s3 intercooler on he can tweak it a little more .
Proof of the extra grunt will come with some good time slips from santa pod 2moro

May battle commence...
Serously though, glad you're happy mate.. Good isn't it? Think it must be a combo of the two, as when I went from stage 1 to stage 2 (with TBE already on) it was noticeable, but not HUGELY... Just better power delivery and grunt..
Lets see how she fairs tommorow mate..

2.75"? I thought the Milltek was 3" for the Ed30?

Yeah was just about to raise this point.... how come you two have decided to go with the 2.75" instead of the 3" ?

Ben run 2.75 and look at his results

It's called back pressure LOL

But surely if you configure your map correctly for a 3.0" then this would not be a problem? But then I guess you sacrifice some low-end torque?

perhaps T_T may have some thoughts on this, How can a smaller exhaust give better Torque?????????????   doesnt make any logic to

me. :undecided:

There was no scientific logic involved in it originally. I bought my Milltek second hand (off Jer/Phil's ED30 briefly and GTI originally), so had the 2.75" DP. But certainly doesn't seem to of hindered it's performance..
Luca then found a DP on ebay that was also from a GTI (not ED30) and I told him that mine was the same and it will be fine and also seems to of done the trick. Whether it works better or what the science involved in it is, I don't know. But i'm happy and by the sounds of it, so is Luca..

I got it for a good price off ebay . The car is definately quicker with stage 2 and full milltek . Not sure if it performs better with a 2.75 downpipe over the 3" as ive never tried it
My settings are B7 T5 F9, he wants it at boost 7 as im running at santa pod today so would prefer a little headroom for the engine
When the intercooler goes on the map will be tweaked a little more

Thanks vtec

Definitely - if it works well then no need to change!

Would be interested to see how a 3.0" affects things though!

I would like to try a 3" to see what the difference is, i would swap mine with someone for a few rr runs but i think it would be too much hassle.

Yeah seems like wayyy too much hassle. I'm sure someone will have a stage two with a 3.0" downpipe soon enough!

When the 2.0 TFSi was released some tuners only advised fitting a 2.75" downpipe rather than the 3" version not sure why, but the current oem downpipe is not as restricted as the prev 1.8t's were.My cars still running the full oem system with what you guys would call stage 2 - GIAC.

what consists of a stage2??

what consists of a stage2??

i think its just an exhaust on the edition 30, its different on the normal Gti though
Title: Re: Stage 2 revo done today
Post by: WhiteGTI on 11 October 2008, 12:28
Stage 2 differs with different tuners, but normally consists of the following to achieve the best possible results:

Better intercooler
Stage 2 software (obviously)
High-pressure fuel pump
TBE
Intake

Although Kevin at Revo told me that he would load stage 2 software onto my car if i had an intake and a TBE. But I think to reap the full benefits of the software an Intercooler and Fuel Pump is advised!

Someone correct me if the above is wrong

Revo and APR stage 2 only really only requires a TBE and a dropin air filter.
An uprated IC and HPFP isn't necessary.

Your neck of the woods mate, Roadrunner. Got it for £570 delivered which was far cheaper than anywhere else.

i have a milltek TBE with 3" DP sitting in my garage for 6 months now !!! I need to go and install it :)

Are you saying that a 3" DP will hurt the performance ??

In my experience, the 3" DP gives lower peak torque. However, it also retains the torque better across the revs.

so is it better put it in or better stock one ??

I think I would still stick to the 3" if I had the choice again to be honest, as it does provide better flow ultimately over the 2.75" one.

I agree with DJ.

From idle to the redline I have over 300lbft for over 45% of the rev range  and even at the change up point it was still around 280lbft.

I'd also say that it gives better bhp too.
