Title: creaking noise
Post by: daniel-1986 on 10 October 2008, 16:55
everytime i pull off there is a creaking noise coming from the drivers side, my dad said it could be the wishbone bushes but it doesnt do it over heavy bumps, the only thing i can think of is the rear engine mount but it was fine at 2 o'clock then came back to drive it an hour later and the noise started

Check your ront engine mount.... Then check your subframe is tight!! I had a creaking every time I went into reverse and it turned out to be the subframe was loose!!

i went over speed hump whilst braking from 20 mph and it quite a nasty bump with pothole just in front of it, could this have loosened the subframe bolts

Have your wheels been off lately? I had the same on a Passat and found that the numpties at the garage had not tightened up the wheel bolts! I only found out when I went to remove the wheels to investigate the problem. I though it was a suspension bush. I rechecked the other wheels and they werer all the same.

Could also potentially be your suspension top mounts

Could be top mounts or the wishbone rubber thing? Had a similar noise on mine recently and changed the wishbone and top mounts - no noise now

if i put the car on axles stands with boths off the ground and put in first gear, would this put enough pressure on the rear engine mount to make a noise if its fooked

That sounds suspension related. Happend to my mk4. The spring snapped and dug into the top mount.

Get that wheel off and check it asap. Sounds dangerous.

Really cant say without looking at it tbh.

What engine size?

MK2 Singh on here had a similar problem. turned out to be the exhaust downpipe on his 1.3.

Worth a look maybe?
