Anyone had shortshifter fitted to a GTI/E30?
How is it?
Also, if one fits it, is the gear lever still OEM (that is, do I still have my beloved golfball)?
-
Sorry to go off on a tangent, but I saw this thread and thought, brilliant idea... then I realised I've got DSG :embarassed: :embarassed:
-
lsc is the man to ask he has just fitted one.
and yes you keep your oem gear stick.
-
I've had a Nuespeed one fitted and used a Forge on another car. The Nuespeed is excellent quality but a very short throw.
I recently changed to an S3 OEM part which costs under £30 and is quite nice to use.
Only 10 mins to fit really.
-
Whats the difference like on the s3 one
-
Shorter than the OEM but not as short as the Nuespeed.
-
thx, is the actual shifter the one under the bonnet, sort of an L shape ?, and what involved In fitting it

You need to get access to the top of the gearbox so evoms out if you have that or remove the flexi on the stock intake.
Undo the top nut on the shifter and pull off the old one, push on the new one and fit everything back.
-
nice one cheers, s3 one looks a good idea
-
Got a part number for the S3 shifter, as at that price seems a worthwhile mod.

Guy's just a word of warning - If you want pin point short shift then this is not the product for you.
What it does is slightly shorten the OEM movement, enough for me I must admit but not as far as you can go.
That said for a little over £20 you can't go wrong.

i had a neuspeed one on my lcr it found it abit notchey so this should do the job as long as its not the same as the ed30
-
Yes, same thoughts as me. I just found it a little too short for comfort.
-
ed30 has same as the s3 just checked p no

i find the standard one "notchy" sometimes 1st to 2nd really needs a push for it to "click in" to the "notch"

I had this for the first few hundred miles but now its perfect. Wouldnt mind a slightly shortened throw though. I am hoping the Gti/ED30/R32 are all the same when it comes to the manual??
-
yes they are fella
-
well mines done almost 5k and its still really notchy. and sounds a bit clonky too.. :(

Defo shouldnt be like that. I would get it looked at.. or better still compare with another manual at some point. If I try running through the gears whilst parked up engine off I can hear them.. but Im sure thats quite normal. Engine on... dont hear any of the gear changes

Guys, check out my Forge Quick Shift write-up found here http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=94396.0, hopefully this will answer some more questions

agreed. but getting it to happen while showing them or while their engineer test drives may be dificult. it does it randomly...
i also have no convidence in my citygate dealer in bushy/watford.

Anyone stuck this S3 part in their std GTI yet? How much difference does it make?
