can i use g60 pistons for my 16v turbo project, will it drop the comp?could i get away with stacked gaskets for a low boost conversion?can anyone give me some usefull info thanx..

ask Steve (mk1), he has done a 16v turbo.

I don't think that G60 pistons will work in a 16v
because the con rods are 136mm in a g60 and 144 in a 16v. Also the small end is 2mm smaller diameter on the 16v, and the g60 piston is about 6mm taller above the small end to crown (if you know what I mean ::)). You may be able to use the pistons and rods, I have no idea if this will work or the compression. Hope this helps.

what pistons are you using mk1?

I am running a 9a engine so piston choice was a bit limited. it has standard pistons at the moment bit will be fitting a set of JE pistons soon so I can run more boost (10psi at the moment).

can i get away with sd pistons with a steel or copper gasket for about 10/11 psi (1.8 16v out of 87 gti)
-
What you can and can't do is all down to tuning, standard pistons will be ok for 7 ish psi. Make or buy a air fuel meter as going lean when boosting is going to burn your pistons. Also watch your ign timing as you should pull 1 degree per psi of boost (you will have to tune your engine as no 2 engines are the same). I am using a vw gasket with no problems so far, ran a 14.06 quarter mile with lots of wheel spin so should get into the 13's when I learn how to drive ;).
