The Edition 30 developed a leak which I dropped the car off Monday expecting to have it back later that evening, got a call saying they need to keep it overnight as they had to strip the gearbox.
Gave them a call today and said it needs a new engine
Been down to see the guy tonight and he basically said it’s been like that from day one and put it down to a manufacturer’s error. The more pressure put on the engine the more the oil leaked. Also said the engine is on back order for at least 2 weeks...most likely more
Car is only 3 months old and covered just over 4000 miles...well disappointed. Bring on the rental car in the morning
What car do we reckon it will be?
-
A povo spec Fox.
Sorry about your hassle though fella and you're gonna have to run it in again!
Nick
-
thats certainly unusual i would be asking for one of the R 32's sitting in there lot, i bet your looking at more than two weeks.

Its not directly from VW, Euro(p)car whatever the company is called :undecided: could be any car.
Run it in again...
Asked for a white Ed30 DSG thats sat on there lot, but just laughed it off
-
Compare notes with RR. He ended up with a Yaris.
Sorry to hear about the heart being ripped out of your ED30 though
-
I can see some tame 1.8 family car like a mondeo or something
I've got it for a minimum of 2 weeks and bet it will be longer, he wouldnt even put a date on when I would get it as they are moving showrooms aswel which im sure will delay it a few days.
Does anyone know what exactly will be getting changed? To me when someone says engine, I think of everything. :undecided:
-
Not good, but at least they are sorting it properly mate, although what happens about vin numbers etc
-
Bloody hell, I bet that was a shock to you!!! Certainly unusual that mate, sure all will be resolved mate and you will be back in her in no time!!
-
it will be the whole engine  no turbo or anything just the engine
-
on the positive side 4000 miles back down to 0 miles! score!
-
as vw own eurocar you will only get a small car keeps there warranty cost of a loan/rental car down to a min. stress that you have lots of kids or that you do something that you need a simular size car means they cant give you a yaris or ford fiesta.
-
if only everything was as reliable as a mk5.
I wish i owned one rather then my bucket of bolts Mk2
dibble

Depends whats wrong with it, most probably the short block though.. comes assembled on a pallet ready to go.

The VIN stays the same, just the engine number which changes. It will get recorded on the V5C, but shouldn't be a problem with it being done under warranty.

Nope, the odo stays the same.

daft lad, if you don't have anything helpfull to say why bother !!

Agreed. Kick up some stink, and just hope you don't get a ricer. A good trick for getting a decent long term loaner in these instances - when they deliver the first one, go round it with a fine tooth comb, and pick out every minor problem. They generally will then upgrade to a larger class.
A few years back, I was in a similar situation, and they gave me a right crock of sh!t - some Mazda 6. It was winter, with snow and ice. Every time either the traction control or ABS kicked in, the headlamps dimmed to a candle. Lifted the bonnet, and found that the battery wasn't much bigger than a motorbike batt. Anyhow, got a BFO Pug 407 diesel - quite nice for French, and considerably better than any rice burner.

Ahhh - being your usual helpful self again, Sharpie!

Doubt it would be a short - car too new, and how many returned Ed30 engines would have been remanufacturerd?

If only everyone was as annoying as sharpie....
-
Thanks for all the info...I really want it baaaaaaack
Just hope I have it back in time for the Krispy Kreme meet, then again im going to have to take it easy as it will need running in again, wont it?
A friend really seems to think I will get a 1.7CDTi Astra, as her mum rents cars from the same company and gets these all the time. If thats the case im going to try get a DTUK tuning box for the time being will be like being back in my old car.
Would this affect the value in any way? would you purchase a car that has had to have a new engine fitted? :undecided:
-
hope you get it back soon, did you actually find out whats was wrong with it or not?
if you cant make this krispys meet, then if theres a good show, there could well be another
-
Sorry to hear about your engine mate.... Its quite sad not having your car.. trust me I know mine is going in today and Im already missing her even though shes out on the drive :undecided:
-
Its a shame to hear about the engine. Just make certain that they do not do anything without your permission.
Mike

From what I picked up when he was talking al techy...they took the gear box out and theres some sort of oil pump :undecided: some part of it has to be machined off and when thats been done a fine crack has been in some part of the engine and when under pressure it begins to leak.
Not very technical as you can tell
Should be getting a rental car very soon, but wont be the same coming to the meet in a Astra or whatever it will be.

Here she is, what a beauty.
And the ED30 engine.

Looks like a dsg gearbox remaining!!, maybe you may get a green electric motor to bolt in as its replacement!!! happy days!!!.
At least you have one of those mega powerful "get and Run faster" model polo's
Fingers crossed for you Edition30 its not too long a wait.
-
In all honesty im not happy at all about this 'defect' that has happened
Im thinking it will lose value due to the new engine as it will be recorded on the cars history and to be honest I dont think I would buy a second hand car that has had to have a new engine.

Not too bad. At least it is a Dub. And has the correct number of doors!
BTW, where are you from, cause that number plate is near to my locale?

WTF was that pic taken? Looks like some chav has tried to steal it at a scrap yard!

Nope, the gearbox is missing, and the engine is in the pic. You can clearly see the nice shiny end of the crankshaft where the flywheel bolts onto. :smug:

Lift the carpet mat, and he should be able to see the road. Then he can run like fcuk - in a Fred Flinstone fashion!

Aye, agreed.

Sh!t happens. Just be thankful it is all being done under warranty.

Shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure, demand if necessary, that you get a "warranty invoice" for the engine change from your stealer - then at least you can prove easily that it was all genuine.

Im from Yorkshire, not far from Leeds.
The car was outside the workshop, not sure how they got it outside with the engine like that, which is propped up by a tyre.
One of my centre caps seems to have gone walkies aswel, looks like theyve chipped it out with a screwdriver.

Ahh. Just wondered why you had a car from East Anglia - Peterborough actually! :undecided:
Probably pushed the car out to clear a bay whilst the wait for the engine. Bit odd that they removed the box but left the engine in though? :undecided: Unless it was just for diagnosis.
Caps and valve covers do tend to disappear. They will have to sort it though.
-
How would I go about getting a better rental car?
I mean I have given them my E30 and they have given me a 1.2 polo :undecided:
The guy that delivered it said they do loads of different cars so would I ring VW to get them to sort it out? and what could be my excuse?
EDIT: Just rang them and they said they should have supplied like for like, by that I think they mean Golf for Golf rather than ED30 for ED30??
They are getting on the case and getting me a Golf or better she said before the weekend.
-
your block is cracked (engine) close to the crankshaft oil seal so ive been told
Thats the reason is foooked, means nothing to me like :undecided:

Cheer up mate. It will be like new when you get it back  In the mean time you can appreciate how nice it is to have a great car
You will love it twice as much when its back!!
-
Yeah I suppose...just really miss the power more than anything. All these young lads in Mercs and BMW's that I could easily see off in the E30. I have trouble seeing scooter of in the Polo
Complained anyway so should be getting a new rental car soon, said a Golf, Jetta or Passat depending on what is available. Also complained to the supplier about the E30 and said when its fixed take it up and they will see if we can come to some arrangement, I said I want a new car so maybe a Pirelli is in the pipe line....prefer the E30 in all honesty but meh!!
-
AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH NOT HAPPY
Got rid of that Polo and they got me a brand new Jetta 2.0TDI not bad for a rental but no E30. Anyway rang VW and they said my car was ready so picked it up at 5 all going well then booom no turbo :undecided:
Took it back down and they have given me a Golf f'in Plus...I WANT MY F'IN CAR BAAAAAACK FFS.

oh f*** thats not good
-
Not good dude i'm feeling for you. but it will get sorted soon keep the faith.
-
I got my hopes up sooo much at getting the car back and now this...really irritating to say the least.
-
what did it do? did it just go bang or was there no boost?
-
No boost. It didnt sound right from the start, I could hear the turbo alot more clear when it was working for the short time I had it than previously with the 'old' engine.
Im hoping its just a pipe that hasnt been connected properly then I can get it back A.S.A.P
-
i would say pipes not done up right so should be a simple fix but you would think they would have driven the thing
-
I think they have...it was working for the first half hour or so. The trip had been reset and had a few miles on so im sure they have been driving it.
-
as long as this wasnt the Appprentice's 1st engine build, it should be fine, like has been said, either pipes put on in reverse or pipe missing, and cars gone into "limp home mode".
Will be minor dont worry Edition30
-
Know exactly how you feel mate... So let down after a long fecking wait!!!!
EVERY dealer I have dealt with excluding BMW have been utter pants. Benz were so bad I swore I would never buy one!!! And I wouldnt unless someone is giving away a black edition!
-
Needs a new boost solenoid (sp?) now whatever that may be...another days wait. There customer service is shocking...never get back to you and they tell you stuff they cant do.
