Cleaned and waxed the Audi yesterday. I used the Zymol cleaner wax that Halfords sells.........looks great.
Has anyone tried some of Zymols more expensive waxes? Difficult to see how you could improve on what I used yesterday.
-
I've not tried the zymol. but I use Mer on my Cabrio, and it come up a treat everytime, It's a little expensive, but definatly worth the extra cost. It goes on a wet car, so you dont need to dry it first either. smells nice too!

Hi Adam,
Had a look around Halfords and Camberley Auto Factors the other day and don't recall seeing that one........where do you buy that?
Also, is it one of those waxes where the more you wax the car the deeper the depth of shine you'll build? I think that the Zymol that I used cleans off any previous wax that was on there.

I have seen Mer in the local Halfords...it is in a light blue container with a gold top. Used it in the past but not that widely available and a bit pricey, but it is quite good. must admit I use Autoglym products and do rate the super resin polish and gloss polish. Brings the car up a treat.

I must admit, I have been using the Autoglym 'extra gloss protection' that you put on after you have waxed the car.........excellent stuff.
I was just wondering if there is a product out there where every time you waxed the car you were building on a previous coating as opposed to wiping off the previous coating and applying new.........or is that not a good idea ???
-
I know what you mean, but cant think of any prodcuts that do that. The only way of achieving that would possibly be to wax the car more often as opposed leaving it until it actually needs doing. On the other hand the Autoglym super gloss polish can be used on its own as long as the car is relatively clean (but still washed). I have only used it after waxing the car, but know you can use it on its own. I must admit after using that stuff washing the car is so much easier and insects, etc dont take as much to get off.

When I Zymol'ed the Audi the other day, I did notice that the first application was very difficult to buff up. However, when I did a second application in exactly the same place, it was much easier to buff up.............so maybe you're right, wax the car more regularly instead of just once every 6 months......i think it might even have been over a year for the Audi :-[
-
I always try and wax the Golf every month, but it never usually gets done that often!! But when it does it is very satisfying but then you notice all the imperfection such as stone chips!!
-
I've got a few minor scraches on my paintwork that i've tried to get out using various polishes/waxes from me garage but all were unsucessful. So I thought it try some colour magic as it came with a chip stick! But found it absolutly useless! the chip stick just didnt do anything i even tried heating it up abit! and the polish was a waste of money too! Might go and have a look at that Zymol stuff or one of the others! Cheers boys got any other favourite waxes that are worth a go??
-
Correct me if I'm wrong but products like the Zymol cleaner wax are for applying a layer of wax and other materials to the surface of your paintwork to protect it........and make it look good.
I wouldn't have thought it was the right product for removing blemishes........for that you would need something like T cut. As for scratches, if its scratches in your paint work then wouldn't you be better to fill the scratch with paint (touch-up) and then compound it back?
T cut's also good if you have marks from other cars paintwork on yours..........but always use it sparingly as you are at the end of the day removing some of the finish..........takes a long time to go though your paint, but if you concentrate on the one area for too long it will eventually go through..........BTDT :(
-
Thankfully I havent got any damage to the paint work apart from some stone chips. Being a white car the super resin polish will remove very minor scratches i.e not deep or down to the undercoat. To get rid of the stone chips Halfords sell the touch up kit that comes with an undercoat and topcoat that has the pens with a brush or a nib which lets you put the paint exactly where you need it. Works okay but I find the nib sometimes doesnt stop pouring the paint out and so you have to be careful. If you are after restoring the paintwork Autoglym do a paint renovator, but never needed to use it (not that I am a rep for Autoglym!)

have been using ZYMOL wax and ZYMOL auto-wash for the past 18 months i beleive it's a lot better than any other wax/polish on the market including AUTOGLYM , as for the more expensive products in the range i have not tried them (far to expensive) but VW MOTORING ran an article on them about a year ago in which it was very impressed. I notice as stated in another reply ZYMOL is now available in HALFORDS at a price which is far cheaper than the official suppliers SPORTSCAR WORLD ?12 compared to nearly ?18!!...another wax which i've read about on various other VW/AUDI websites is a product called SWISSOL for more info go to the audi tt-forum website

Just brought the Zymol cleaner wax at lunch ready to test at the weekend!!! ;D

They forecast a really good weekend, you might have trouble avoiding direct sunlight.........quite the opposite of what I'm going to doing at the VW-action show 8)
Good Luck

The more expensive SWISSOL and ZYMOL products as opposed to the Cleaner Fluid, are easier to apply and give a superior finish. They are also two part treatments, the first part being the cleaning of the paintwork with Paint Cleaner Fluid or HD Cleanse, and then a top coat of a high quality wax to seal the paintwork and to give a stunning shine. You then on a monthly basis just 'top up' the wax protection with another coat of wax.
I used some of the Cleaner Wax yesterday on a badly faded whie Polo, and it worked but it was hard work and needed two goes to do it properly. I ran out before I had finished and then used some of the Cleaner Fluid instead. Much easier and did the job in 1 go not two. Then I had to put a wax coat on top but that was extremely quick to do.
I think the Cleaner Wax is a combination of a cleaning fluid and a synthetic wax
At the end of the day, if you want speed and ease of use, then you pay the money.

i use zymol all the time is without a dought the best polish out there but at a price ?40 for the small tub of 'CARBON' wax
you just have to make sure that you use it correctly very hard to get off if you let it dry......but soooo good you can eat it!!!!
-
?40 for a tub is not that bad when you consider that it will last about 3 years or 40 odd waxes of the car, so that works out at ?1 a wax!
And it will build up layers as well, as opposed to the Cleaner Wax, and the AG Super Resin Polish, when remove what is already there and put a fresh layer on/ Or in the case of AG, doesn't even take the muck off first!

I can vouch for Mer, its excellent. Its what they use at Aston Martins just down the road from me!
-
aston martins just up the road from me! where do u live?
-
Benjamin, I live in Newport Pagnell.
-
Really? i live just south of MK between Leighton Buzzard and Aylesbury! What do you cruise about in?
-
Daily runner is a Chilli red pearl MK3 8v and for fun I have a MK1 Diamond Silver Campaign with a 150bhp Tim Stiles Racing Engine in it, ridiculously quick!!!

Mmmmmmm. Zymol. I have been using Zymol for a couple of years now and can't recommend it enough. A top quality wax which is made from 100% natural substances like banana and coconut extracts which give it that unique smell.
These natural substances also help prevent colours oxodising - a bit of a problem with red VW's. Infact the person who had previously owned my car had combated the oxodising so much they had t-cut through to the primer on a couple of the bonnets edges.

Banana & Coconut? what u supposed to do? eat it or put it on your car??
Mer is the best ?9 ish for a bottle. Put it on a wet or dry car, leave to dry on for about ten minutes then buff off to a brilliant shine, peice of p*ss.
U can also use as a weekly wash & wax, put a couple of capfulls in a bucket of water, wash your car then shammy off.
Brilliant stuff I wouldnt consider using anything else.
-
Unfortunately MER is 'jack of all trades and master of none'.
You WILL get a better result if you get the Zymol Cleaner Wax and some of their shampoo, and without all the dust you can get from MER.
At the end of the day, you get what you pay for.
Just my 2p worth...
John.

Hi
I also use the Zymol cleaner wax, I find it easy to apply and just as easy to polish off.
I have got some zymol carbon wax, it was about 45 notes for a tub. You have to go over the paintwork with a cleanser first to remove the roadfilm, then apply the wax.
Its more fiddly than the bottled stuff, but definitely a great finish. My motor only needs a rinse off afterwards, the water and dirt just runs off.
I think my jar of it will last forever, cos I only have one dark colored car now, whereas i used to have two!
