ok first things first its a 1990 8v GTI... it was running fine then i went over a steep speed hump only very slowly and something got dragged the car is lowered by 60mm.. a day later on a longish run i noticed a high pitched wheerring sound from the back of the car..i believe it to be the fuel pump i have noticed a small fuel leak from the pipe that connects it..i have done a search in the mk2 forum but want to know is it supposed to have a clamp or something round that pipe? the car is low and i have no way of really getting under there but can see that there is no clamp.
is to possible that i pulled the pipe back a little whilst going over this hump?
thanks, i was gonna take to the local vw place but they want £70 just to look at it

yeah all the rubber fuel hoses should have clips on! pull the electricl plug off it and turn the key 1 click, you should hear the in-tank pump prime, if not its deasd and your main pump will be soon too if you dont replace it :)

havr you got a drop kerb near you, ?
2 wheels on that, then jack up the other side at the rear, axle stand in and away you go, instant raised car

cheers for that guys...good thinking chuff  and what electrical plug? do you mean the one under the car on the pump somewhere?
-
yep theres a bigun on the pump itself. basically you're disabling the main pump so you can hear the lifter work :)
