Title: Interesting find on the milltek site
Post by: luca on 06 October 2008, 13:48
Was reading the milltek website today to see their warranty information as i have the catback on mine and the dowpipe going on this week.
Milltek only cover the system if the car is within 33% extra than factory output.
Therefore all/most ed30 gti owners that have a remap have a void exhaust warranty.
Aftersales Care

Q.   Is my exhaust system covered by a guarantee or warranty?
A.   As long as you are the original purchaser, cat-back exhaust systems are covered by a lifetime anti-corrosion and manufacturing defect warranty and hi-flow sports catalysts and downpipes are covered by a 2 year or 80,000km warranty. We do not cover against any modifications made to our product after it has left our factory and also not for unusual use of the parts - for example, the use of Nitrous Oxide (NOS), damage caused by going over a speed bump too fast etc. Our warranties are offered on the understanding that the cars power maybe increased by up to 33% from it's original specification. Modifications made to increase the power beyond this will render the warranty void.

We pride ourselves on our after-sales support and customer service and will look into each case on an individual basis.

All warranty cases should be dealt with by the Milltek appointed distributor from whom you purchased the system. However, if you are dissatisfied with the service of your distributor in response to your claim, you can contact us directly by emailing us at techsupport@millteksport.com.

It would still be difficult for them to prove that the car is mapped/over the warranty power limit if you revert back to stock map though

or actually producing the bhp that the mapping companys say they do  .

I doubt they would really wanna follow this one through!

Another good way of calculating bhp is at the drag strip, there is a calculation that takes weight of car, terminal speed and a few other things and you can usually get a pretty accurate reading.
A drag racing friend of mine did the calc with my car running revo stage 1 at santa paod and my figure came out at 285-290, which i was happy with as it was around 25degrees that day and the car was hitting consistent 104+mph terminals.
I was also running F4 that day, the car is now running F9 so maybe a few extra ponies midrange now. Stage 2 and milltek dowpipe getting done on friday then off to pod on saturday to see if i can improve
Either way im not fussed about a rolling road printout/figure. My car feels very very quick and has put a few bigger cars to shame so im more than happy with my car. RR's are just numbers and pub talk to me

i know what your saying Luca, telboys felt fast before Saturday, Now he knows it isnt as fast as it could be.

To me, looking at a torque curve for instance, helps me know that if i pull fast away, i need to change gear at around 4800-5000rpm to change up and keep the revs up above 3000rpm to maintain a quick gettaway. If i was doing something like say Santa Pod, i could be very confidant doing a quicker 0-60 if i did know this info, rather then revving it to the red line.

Thats why im doing the prosport rr day. I want to see where the torque comes in and drops off at what revs etc to see where my best shift points are, so i can shift at the right time at santa pod

133% of 230bhp = 306bhp.

Don't think any of the remapped ED30s broke that limit at the RR.

Thats because no revo ed30's were there  Only joking, they would probably use the factory output as 226bhp which would mean 300.58bhp. I suppose it depends which rollers are used.

....

"We pride ourselves on our after-sales support and customer service and will look into each case on an individual basis."

And indeed they do - They couldn't be better imo.

It's right and justifiable that Milltek state a limit - Their exhaust systems are designed and developed with the established tuners and they need to protect themselves against issues arising from some people using Joe Bloggs tuners and going beyond the limits that their exhausts are tested for. Besides which, an over 'ambitious' remap can damage your expensive engine in the long term even if you love the wow factor in the short term.

My mate who is meant to be coming with me is working till 12, so wasn't going to leave till after dinner either (about 2ish, can you get away for then?).
I'm flexible with route to a certain degree. Normally go down A1, then cut across. That any good for you, or are you going M1?
