Title: Oil pressure light 16v
Post by: edd16v on 06 October 2008, 08:39
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on a problem Im having with my mk2 16v gti.

When the car is warmed up the oil light on the dash is flickering intermitantly it doesnt do it constantly and the car seems to be running fine??

What is this light telling me? is it just low oil pressure or is it low oil level?? I have checked the oil and the level is fine. Does anyone know where the sensor that controlls this light is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Edd

its a pressure warning, if it comes on at idle then your oil is getting a bit thin when hot or the pump is starting to die.  however if the idle drops much below 900rpm it can trigger it as well, since the pump is driven by the engine!

As per the guys comments above, I had this when I first bought my golf and an oil change, a genuine VW filter and a quick adjustment to the idle setting sorted it all out.

10 40 semi-synth.

Buy it from a motor factors - much cheaper. E.g. Fuchs.
