Hi guys,
Ive just had my GTI 1.8T Revo'd (oh my gosh!) anyway, like the thread states I don't really know the first thing about tuning/ what stages to do next etc. Now I know that theres a suprem wealth of knowledge on this forum, as some of you (sorry) ALL of you guys (gals) have tuned your golfs,
I'm a driver, i used to go-cart and do amature racing, I wasn't the dogs bo***** but I was the dogs!!, therefore I think i can hold my own whilst driving!!
Question is anyway, what do i need to do now that i've got my golf revo'd, I know this has/ will put a strain on the engine, and i heard that the Mintex exhaust system is a good option. help, give me some ideas, share your experiences ???
Oh and spark plugs, is it worth changing the existing ones to Bosch Super 4's? whats yall's suggestions.. Thanks in advance!!!
-
good move going with revo, im very pleased with mine. 1st i would uprate the dv as the oe one will let you down sooner or later even with a standerd 1.8T, they are around ?80 to ?100 get a forge007 or a baily dv30. A k&n panel filter and exhaust are the next step, the system i would go for is the miltek, if you are willing to spend the money get a turbo back system with hi-flow cat. its like revo'in your car again. next step would depend on what year your car is and if its a ndbw or a dbw. if its a drive by wire you can get a bit more out of your car by changing the fual regulater and revo will sort out the fueling with a simple program.
8)hope this helps.

First off, if you haven't already, get rid of the naff plastic bosch diverter valve !! (often incorrectly referred to as a dump valve)
This part is likely to go pop under the boost that the revo is pushing. A forge 007 will cost you about ?80.
As for the Milltek, a full system will see you with a 200 cell cat and 2.5 inch downpipe, which will help a lot in keeping your turbo cool, and a cuts lot of back-pressure, increasing performance. A nice looking twin-pipe backbox (all stainless steel) finishes it off. Total cost ?650 plus ?40ish for a Golf 4motion rear valance (unless you want to chop a hole in your original, which can look untidy).
If you still want more power, you may be able to get the revo 4bar program if your car is a later DBW model (2000 onwards) which consists of a 4 bar fuel pressure regulator and a free/discounted software upgrade (you'll have to check on that i'm not 100% sure.)
After that, uprated clutch may cost you around ?500 fitted and some coilovers will help you stick to the road (i believe you went to stealth for the revo ? ask vince about these he's done most of the mods on my car)
Big turbo upgrades can see a LOT of power from your very capable engine, but you're talking thousands.
Upgraded intercooler (front mounted, twin side mounted, or all alloy side mounted) will help reduce turbo heatsoak, especially in weather like this.
I'm sure there's a lot more that I can't think of right now, but that lot will keep you busy for a while I'm sure.
Chris
<edit> i see starry beat me to most of it as i was typing, oh well, noone can say we aren't helpful! </edit>

Thanx Starry,..
Vince at stealth fitted a 225bhp TT Dump valve, he said the GTI ones will go eventually, and even more so with the revo chip!! charged me ?20 for the dv!.
My Car details are:
2002 Gti T 1.8
dbw
Diamond Black
5dr ( ok ok I got three nieces, and 3 sisters big family)
Revo 3 bar (i think, with the sps1 module)
TT dump valve
(at the mo...)
Oh and does the performance get better with the revo chip the longer you use it?? i.e. a little extra bhp ?? i think mine is 209bhp at the mo, not sure what the torque is ???
-
Oh and thanks a bunch Tophuh,
I was also writing so I didn't see your msg!!!
Will be going for the Milltek full system Total cost ?650, is that fitting derrr Total cost (sorry i'm in stupid mode)
Yeah i went to stealth to get revo'd, BTW can Stealth fit/ supply the Milltek Full system?
-
i think i'm the one in stupid mode ! It's actually ?650 plus VAT ! :(
And yep stealth fitted mine for fifty quid, although i'd already fitted the new rear valance myself.
-
as you have a newer car (dbw) you will see better power from your mods than me and tophuh. if you get the 4bar software and the miltek you will be flying. mines pretty quick at 200bhp/237lbs torque. when you think an R32 only has 236lbs torque(i think) all be it with 240bhp.
-
ahh you lucky lucky boy with a DBW, after the exhaust/downpipe you want the 4bar FPR and revo upgrade & SPS3. You'll be seeing R32's in your rear view mirror.
If you can catch him on here GaryM would be the man to talk to about that setup.

;D
Thanks all for your advice and support, just driving home from work and I thought to myself: "the car seems slow" do you guys get that or is it that i am getting used to it? Then i thought, i hope i haven't been sold/fitted a 5 hour Trial or something like that, I'm sure they could if they would!!
Oh by the way I was thinking all this until.............. The last few miles of my journey home a Alfa Gt (whateveryoucallit) with mad big alloys and twin exhaust zoomed passed me (boy racer, i thought) So........ I placed me foot down (not all the way) caught up with him, then he put his foot down i was still there like he was toeing me, then a sudden surge from the GTi nearly made me meet his back end with my front end ! Had to quickly do an overtake manover and he was SHOCKED to say the least!!, then looked in the mirror and he was a shrinking into the distance. How pleased was I .!!!
So to answer my own question, I was probably getting used to the cars new power, but must admit, it needs to be tested to make sure its still there!!!
(oh an i'm not telling what speed i hit incase the boyz in blue read this!) :P

Hello lads.
I have a revo sps 2 module for sale if anyone is interested.

Any of you guys know which spark plugs to get???
Went in to Halfords to look at the Boch Super 4's, and that list that usually shows you which plugs go with which car wasn't there :( So did not know which ones to get??? any clues.........
-
Every single time i read a story about a car thats been revo'd it sends a tingle down my spine, i want it i want it i want it!!! im just worried i do quite a lot of drivin, an don't wanna reck the rest of the car!! an its even worse seeingas though i only live 10 mins away an work in the shopping center new door, i could drop it off when i start work an pick it up when i finish, its seems perfect dont it???? I'm scared 8) :o ??? shall i!!??
-
DO IT!!! antill you do it you wont realise how slow and restricted your car is, trust me i had my car for 2 weeks and was going to sell it because it was so slow then i revo'd it and did a couple of other mods now im a happy bunny... ;D
-
I second that ;D hurry up and get Revo'd !!!!!
ok an other question for you guys (girls),
The MAF Sensor!!! is the revo chip gonna stress it out, and do you have to clean it on the regular!!! Oh and am i right in saying the MAF is between the air box and the throttle?????? ???
Thanx in advance peeps
-
maf sensor sits between airbox and top part of turbo inlet pipe
(http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~dv8r/mafgap2.jpg)
noone mentioned cleaning it to me when i was revo'd, vw replaced it a month ago due to an intermittent fault though.
-
Tophuh,
That was a quick reply and quick picture thanks for that. How many miles had you done b4 you had the faults??
By the sound of thing my time will come to replace the maf sensor, a bit annoying really.
Tophuh, how log did it take for vw to replace it? is it a Day job etc...?
-
car's done 60k, (last 1800 miles with revo)
its 2 screws, a hoseclip, and a plug.. thats it ! 20 minute job to replace at most.
diagnosing the fault probably takes longer. however.. if vw tell you your maf sensor needs replacing, ask them for a refurb'd one ! ?75 is a lot easier on the wallet than ?250 and still comes with full warranty.
-
well at the mo things seem (cautious with that word) seem to be ok! Thank God, Touch wood etc...
My cars done 23k (2002 reg) so its still under warranty for a year, so lets hope if it does go it will go then !!
Thanks again Tophuh! ;)

Hi peeps,
Doesn't anybody know about spark plugs?? I know that they will give your car a boost (however slightly the boost is ) and are an important aspect of the engine, so is this a job just left for the dealers and vw parts or what ???/
