Title: Another dynodynamics RR day (midlands)
Post by: topher on 05 October 2008, 13:43
For those who couldn't make it to JKM, or even just want another shot on a different set of DD rollers, Davefish over on the R32 owners club has very kindly agreed to let the MK5 boys of golfgti.co.uk take part in a rolling road dyno shootout at Weston Performance (nr solihull, b'ham) on November 1st.

More information here http://www.r32oc.com/southern/6730-mkv-meet-weston-performance-rr-day-sat-1st-nov-08-a.html#post69354

If you want to attend and put some more light on the remap bhp claims of various tuners then you need to sign up to r32oc.com and post your interest, then call Weston Performance to pay in advance. All the details you need can be found on the link above.

Spectators welcome too of course.

Nothing wrong with running up a stocker. It can be good confirmation that everything is running as it should, and gives the modified runners something to compare to.

exactly, JKM weekend has just proved that very point . Go and do it Edition30!

Well if we can get at least one Revo'ed and one Standard ED30 along then I will also attend to help put some more figures into the BHP debate.

You are able to represent the standard ED30's Phil?

Nice one Greenouse

So perhaps we could get a runner for each of the major tuners to really put this some light on this??

I'm working that weekend which is a shame because it's not too far from me and I might have REVO by then. £45 is quite expensive though I think, so even if I was free I'm not sure I'd be prepared to pay that much! (Even though I used a tank of fuel to get to Portsmouth and back ).

Ben, get on the Dyno dynamics mate,  we wanna see a fast ed30 alongside the R32's, plus the fact you'll get an acurate reading on

dynamics setup.

I would seriously be interested, but Solihul is just too far for me to get there!

Ipswich, Peterborough or Cambridge would be much better for us East Anglians stuck out in the sticks!

Come on Mr PG!  I don't want to be the only ED30 there!

True, it would be good for the ED30's to show the R32's a thing or two

Also I have just had confirmation that my remap is being "remapped" at the end of next week so would be good it get it back on some Dynodynamic rollers to compare  :smug:

We just need a stock and a Revo'ed ED30 to get some good comparisons now, any other takers ??

When is it again?  And what else is there near Solihill?

And any decent digs - might make a weekend of it - cause its a 3½ hour drive from where I live - unless I come in the RS, then it would be 45 minutes away!

Bring the Audi.. 4wd dyno days are few and far between

Its not far from the NEC so you have all the hotels/casino etc to take advantage of.

....She was plotting under power and torque on JKM's dyno. Milltek changed the Cat+Downpipe as she was failing emissions test. I'll report more fully when we know more definitely what was going on.

Still trying to convince him.. although he's saying his camera is out of action at the mo. Popping round there in a bit for some snap and fireworks, might stick a rocket up his arse.

just got back but don't have all the results

mine made 238.5bhp with a noticable flat spot at 3k rpm, and i seemed to be the only car there with the rev limiter still set to 6400.. so could've made more.

Steve's ED30 made 289bhp on his richter map, and Greenouses ED30 with the revised bluefin and TBE made 325bhp.. although it did 334(i think) on one of the runs that wasn't recorded.

Ooooh, a mapped/TBE ED30 with over 300bhp on DD rollers???? Never!!!
Nice results Greenouse . What's wrong with yours then Topher, any ideas?

Hard to say. As the only unmodified car there wasn't much to compare to.. although the remapped R32's weren't exactly miles ahead. It'll be due a service before Christmas so I'll get them to give it a onceover, but a missing 10bhp calculated by a dyno doesn't really concern me (especially as with a simple rev limiter delete I'll easily be at the 250 mark).

Its the flat spot from 2750-4000 that bugs me more, it's been quite noticable the last few days. Fuelling seemed fine, so it might just need a bloody good thrash to make it forget that I've had to drive it sensibly for the last 2 weeks while the noddies causing traffic on my way to work in the bad weather have kept my revs below the happy zone. It has been nice to see 30+ mpg every day though

Gotta say I was a bit surprised as I've heard the Dyno Dynamics rollers are spot on, and I've probably started to believe some of the Superchips bashing! Im glad to see my Butt Dyno was well calibrated!!

Firstly Thanks to DaveFish for organising this and to Topher for getting us GTI boys included

This time I saw a slight increase over the results from the JKM day which where expected after the tweaking (My estimate was I would see 285bhp).

Here's my graph which again has the nice flat torque curve: -

I really need a TBE Milltek or APR RSC zorst NOW

Hi guys, glad you enjoyed it! I have posted the results on R32OC.

You will notice the 3 GTI's sitting in Gold, Silver and Bronze positions

Cheers

.... x2 - Even though apparently we have met before! Sorry, but what do you expect from a senior GIT driver! At least this time we met properly and had more than a very brief introduction. [I'm now waiting for topher's post reminding me how we spent an hour talking on a previous occasion].

Cheers :afro:

Indeed! Always nice to have a real conversation without having to use smilies to convey the humour.

Any torque figures?

Only what you can make out from the graph, so around 340lbft for Greenouse and a VERY smooth 260 for Steve, which must be very nice to drive... although there is so much more there to be had once that milltek goes on. Not really sure what's going on with the zigzagging on Greenouse's plot.. looks similar to what happens when you leave the ESP on, but I'm sure they turned that off in all the cars.. so could even be wheelspin (it was damp).

Oh and cheers to Dave for organising!

Although not a Mk5 owner it was a pleasure to meet the chaps off the forum although there is a small amount of jealousy at some very tidy motors!

Agreed Dan, it was great to put some faces to names and oggle those lovely R32's. Rupo's R32 sounded absolutely awesome, really made me want one! Im not going to blow anymore smoke up Greeney's ar$e *said in a totally jealous voice* as I think he has had enough now!!

He said on the second run there was a spike in the fuelling? Also noticed when I drove it away after the run the A/C was on  , and the car was stone cold when it went on. Not sure why or what effect either would have, but the RR operator seemed more then happy with it........ And so am I

Running from cold will make the car run richer!!!, not good for the car running at high rpm either!!. why didnt you say something nathan!!, i would go nuts if they blasted mine from cold!.

Not sure if it would effect your Results but still not a clever way of doing it.

It gets run up for a couple of minutes while calibrating the wheel speed, and they don't do the full load test until you can see from the AF graph that any cold-start fuelling has gone away (which is why in most cases the first run they appear to record is stopped short by 50% of the bhp).

Oil probably won't have been up to full temp until the second run.. safe enough though

I had confidence the guy knew what he was doing and no harm would come to my car. Just trying to figure out why the torque graph was a bit squiggly? Planning on a trip to Superchips HQ soon as they have offered to put it on their rollers for me.

Mentioned the GTI domination in my latest blog entry

I'll sort another one out in the spring/summer. I genuinely really enjoyed having the GTI's there. I'm thinking next time we make a theme out of it. Maybe R32 Vs GTI RR Shootout. We all go on the rollers and the winning "team" is the team with the highest average power. Now based on last time we'd get thrashed lol but we have a few turbo guys who could make it pretty interesting

What do you think?

Sounds like it could be interesting

A few ways we could score it.

Top 20 1st gets 20 points, down to last gets 1 point and then tot them up.

Overall bhp for the top ten from each team

Nearest accuracy for top ten from each team (1bhp out = 1 penalty point) least points wins.

Include torque figures in some way.
