Title: MK2 Electric sunroof mod. Small how to
Post by: Mr Blue on 03 October 2008, 20:09
mk2 electric sunroof conversion.

Thought ill do a small how to guide. I used a donor mk2 to be safe but this mod is reversable

Parts needed:
Audi 80 100 electric sunroof motor (thanks to rubjonny for spotting this on ebay)
Bosch motor part number: 0 390 201 693

Mk2 electric window switch
Few metres of wire
Spade connectors for switch

Time needed: about 2 hours

Tools:
Basic screw driver set
Dremel hobby tool with cutting bits
MultiMeter

On the motor I binned all the original audi wiring, microswitches and relay to make it more simple. You should not really do this as the microswitches stop the motor when the sunroof is fully closed/open.

You cant just replace the audi sunroof switch with a mk2 switch. This is why i binned the extra's. Just wouldnt work (for me anyway)

You just need the top two terminals on the motor marked '1' and '2'. These go to the switch.

On the switch...
Numbers '1' and '2' go to the motor.
Numbers '3' '5' and '6' and your Positives.
Number '4' being your negative.

You should end up with something like this. All the wires must be in the right number order.

Remember to add a fuse on the positive and test it before you go any further. I just used the car battery for the test.

You now need to find a 12v+ power feed from behind the dash.
Ive chosen it to work with the ignition on and tapped it into the electric window wiring. (This is where the multimeter comes in handy) Just take your time and route the wiring nice and neat so it does not short out on anything.

anyway...

now remove the two screws.

dremmel time! Ware safety glasses! Remove any sharp edge with a file

Motor in place. Wire it up and your almost done.

works
Just be extra careful with electrics. You dont want anything shorting out. If in doubt ask someone who knows abit more about electrics as im not responsible for any damages.

I havnt figured out how im going to cover the motor yet so ill leave that to you.

Enjoy

You can also use a MK4 Polo sunroof switch, fits right in the electric window switch holes on the center console.

cover is the hard part, if you can get the cover from the audi it hleps then you can trim it with a load of headliner fabric from the scrappy.  on mine i chopeed the stock suround away till it clipped in then glued in a switch surround cut out from one o them cacky aftermarket switch kits so it holds my mk2 switch securly.  Thats as far as I've got, got a big hole showing the motor and the surround thats left has no covering, but at least my roof works

nice one with the sunroof switch fellaz.

I had problems with the motor working with the mk2 switch and im a wirer for the highways agency  ohh well sod it. worked in the end

The motor would only move very very slowly so dashed the extras in the bin. Now have more speed.

Same boat RJ...cant be arsed to cover it
