Title: PAS Leak

My PAS has sprung a leak (just as I'm about to sell :angry: :angry: :angry:)
Had it up in the air and it is leaking from the banjo bolt that goes into the rack next to where the steering column joins on. the pipe the goes off to the other end of the rack. (about 8/9 inches of thin pipe)

I need to order the copper washers to re-seal the joint nut can;t find this in ETKA (Why is so sh|te to find stuff!!))

any one help?

you cant get them from VW, i know... fortunatly i had two racks so swopped them over and thankfully they dont leak. but if i had to get some, id take the old ones off and go asking around car part suppliers, they are only copper washers, its just a case of finding some that match up in size.

just find a company that services or supplys hydralic equipment,   they'll be carried in stock chnaces are they won't be copper but composite whitch is no bad thing as they work better, have them on my pas pump  got them from compnay called pirtek

When I was stuck, I got copper ones from a motorcycle place.
Q. How do the composite ones work better ?

the sealing edge been slightly flexable means they can be tighter fit, also they don't seem to be as fussy about the surface there sealing onto.

get it with heavy plant  when it's a bit old and beaten   if a sealing face has a deep scratch it'll weep ( mostly it's hardly noticable but over time the oil gunk builds up ) with a copper washers but when beeen replaceign them with composite ones  come back to service and everythgin is bone dry.  that i regard as a massive bonus

Just noticed your problem...

I had the same last week, lost oil and loss of PAS with a horrible noise.

Garage have told me that a hose / pipe has worn and a new one is around £150 and seemly difficult to fit.

Something to do with hydraulic return.......

Can anyone please advise, either where I can down load a diagram or if what they are saying sounds ok??

Just get a copper washer or two, that really is all you'll need...
