Title: Help tracking down some 18" monza mk5 alloys pllleeaasseee
Post by: podiopie on 30 September 2008, 22:11
HI,

Firstly hello, as I am a newbie. I bought a golf gti brand new in 2006 and have just purchased another one (too good you see).

I am after a set of 18" Monza alloys genuine bbs ones as the car I've bought has replicas on and all be it a good set with brand new tyres I know they arent quite right and dont look 100% to me, so is anyone able to help me find a set please?

I never thought a set would be this hard to find

appreciate you help, many thanks chris

i really wanted the 18s on mine, so when i was looking at a second hand one at a dealers which only had 17s i asked them to look up getting me some 18s for it. I cant remember exactly but it was something like £1200 without tyres! They are very difficult to find from anywhere else though as I, and now you, found out. It seems like stupid money to me, but if ur desperate then maybe stupid money doesnt matter!

so is anyone able to help me find a set please?

I have a very nice set of 4 genuine unmarked 18" Monza 2's with Conti Sport Contacts in my garage.

All 4 are similar condition to that in photo (18"s on car, 17"'s in foreground)

All OEM BBS with original tyres (about 4 - 5mm tread left) and original balancing etc.  Fully polished and protected with many layers of Klasse Sealant Glaze

I'm open to good offers

PM me if you're interested

They were going to go on E-bay soon

You should not have got your count up quite so fast, your coming across as desperate.
He wont budge now on anything less than £ 250 a corner.

Are the Monza's going up in value - reason I didnt sell mine was I expected they were only worth about £400 for the set.

It all depends on the condition of them

A mint set of 17"'s with OEM tyres go for around £350 - £400 on E-bay

A mint set of 18"s with OEM tyres are very rarely seen on E-bay nowadays, as they are nearly always scuffed, but used to go for around £800-£1000

a Diamond recut re-firb is in the region of £50 per wheel so makes it worth while if the really fetch that.

Temped to get mind just power coated as the problem with diamond cut is how long will they last!

I take it that you want originals and nothing else? I am sure there are loads of copies about. Are they THAT much different? A local dealer dude said to me he could get monza copies with rubber (tho wouldnt want the rubber he was providing) for about £320 all in! thats for four corners.  Would any one be able to tell the difference except for most VW enthusiasts?

I will probably get blasted for this post...I have a set of R32 wheels on my gti, and whilst I do like the look of them I am aware that they are NOT GTI wheels...however I aint changing soon, although i did think about it....those monzas dont have mark up and look a mess unless you are Uber careful....

your alright, must be old age

the replicas i've got are cr@p, they dont look anything like then, the finish etc, but there are some good copies and they are cheaper. there are loads on flea bay but struggling as some are 1" wider so they stick out, if you see any that are same size etc let me know cheers
