Go and clay your mk5!!!
I clayed mine last thurs, the wax has stuck to it so so much better.

Ive clayed mine with Mequires starter clay kit, and it did reduce the swirls i had in places.

I've clayed my car. Just don't have wax/sealant/polisher to do the rest.
Even just a basic wash for my car is becoming expensive. I shelled out something like £40 for a hosepipe and multitap adaptor. then again, it was Hozelock and I'll be using it for years to come (I hope). Also spent loads already on buckets, MF cloths etc.
Next on the list is the G220 polisher, cable extension, appropriate pads, wax and sealant. Will wait for this months pay before shelling out.
EDIT: YAY! I just got paid. Hmm....now those philips bulbs look extremely attractive. Do I go for the polishing stuff or the bulbs?

I believe claying without repolishing/waxing will leave the paintwork totally unprotected. Wax your car immediately!!!
When I got mine (2 years old), the paint felt like fine sandpaper and was covered in tiny black tar spots.
I clayed it straight away and it's now smooth as a baby's!

yes definitely wax!!

Not clayed since just before Inters, but only tend to clay every 4 to 6 months. In between I simply remove tar spots etc before cleaning

I got some free time this week. The biggest problems I have:
- G220 polisher has a high failure rate
- too much cost + effort to get PC + transformer
- don't know how to get my hands on Collinite wax quickly enough

The later versions of the G220 seam to have resolved the issues, I have had mine for about 3 months and have used it on quite a few cars/occasions now with no issues. I think it's better to to the G220 from a good UK supplier who will provide support in the event of problems rather than a Porta Cable that if it breaks you would have to return it to the USA.
