The way the dash instrument indicators are lit up makes me wonder whether they fiddled with the dash to fix the speedo needle in place

Looks quite nippy to me

I'd have loved to have seen a video in the day with the readout from a GPS though.

Can E30 run 300kmh?
With all the tuning out there, even the most powerful ones (360hp) do not run faster than 260kmh. This is due to gearing, not to the weight or air resistance and such.

Did this guy change the gearbox, or what?

i was thinking the same is the box set up for that

Also, I wonder how long the turbo and other parts would live, given that kind of power.  :lipsrsealed:
420bhp.... I think 300bhp is not enough  :embarassed:, but 420 is too much for FWD, too much. Not cost-effective at all.

I bet in 5th in wet weather.
I think it is a waste (also of money, but hey, who am I to say what to do with the great car that E30 is)

I doubt he really got above 180, even if he did hes flipping crazy for taking a golf to that speed !

I take it that's REAL WORLD speed not on the speedo mate? As I've seen many go well over 260kmh on the clock..

Redline theoretical max in 6th gear is 187mph, given enough road, driver bottle, power and fuel, it could be done. When my speedo reads 150mph I'm doing 138 on the GPS. Given an error like that the guy doing 300kph would most likely be doing an actual 276kph, which is around 171.5mph.

Then how do you explain the top-speed all the tuners give, that is set no higher than 260kph?
I think that is the maximum real world (GPS) speed you could reach in GTI, bouncing off the rev limiter.

For tuned S3's though, the tuners write 270-280kph.

The GTI surely has an overdrive ratio for 6th gear - therefore the top speed will be achieved in 5th...?

Hi Peskarik,

Sorry I cannot explain tuners reasons for giving 260kph. All I can do is give you the stats I know myself. I'm working off the ACTUAL gear ratio's and redline figures as a theoretical max, rather than a tuners max  Tuners will not post a theoretical max, but should (if they are reliable) give achieved max outputs.

Oettinger and ABT and B&B Automobiletechnik are reliable enough, no?
I just wonder, you know.
