Title: Standard for the 4/10 Portsmouth Rolling Road day
Post by: telboy on 28 September 2008, 20:10
Just a pre warning that as my car is a work horse and covers some 4,000 miles a month, it won't be as shiny as the likes of Phils or Red's,......

My car to be honest will hopefully be clean although there will be brake dust on the callipers and the exhaust will be dirty!!!!!

In all honesty, what standard is being set for the day and do I need to be up early buffing over the old motor???

lol, well judging by the forecast this week looks changable, sunshine and showers so far ive seen up till thursday, but dont know what the weather has installed for nxt weekend.

I will endevour to have phylis's Crotch looking good nxt weekend, but all in the hands of the gods. Im on holiday as of friday for 6 days so have the day friday to prep or it if raining a day to ball my eyes out ! lol

By the sounds of it of late lots of edition 30's have been taken a hammering! with the odd knock, scrape etc!. Im looking foward to seeing Robins to see if hes tided up the bits that were gonna be his project. Hope he has, hes keeping very quiet over what hes done. Fingers crossed his wheels have been done . His motor is very good looking especially following her on the road. And Not arf sounds the Part too!

I will be Poor old "Mr Standard Ed30" there, so ill just have to be as shiny as possible!!.Looking foward to seeing everyone aswell.
We should have every colour on show so one for the photo album i think, also having Our resident Horney (nick) with his Looooooong Lens's, looking foward to his skills again with the Camera.

I bet know though, i will win the "Most stone chips award "in the GTi 5 catagory!

i know Robin has had his splitter re-sprayed and fettled - he's been quiet about his wheels though - when i spoke to him at Combe he was looking at several finishes

my car won't be clean - i'll have done the daily grind to work and covered 170 miles to get to JKM  :undecided:

i'd bring masks people unless you want to choke on the diesel fumes

the order of merrit hasnt been decided yet lee, im trying to do it in Groups in the same Mk. I was gonna start with 2's, 3,4, then us in the 5's last, but may have to reverse it so the 5's go first instead and just do the reverse as above.I know someone in the Mk2's may be running late cus of the long drive up so perhaps it may work out better. I will do the list tommorow and Maybe publish

Are most people going for the day or half day????

Don't want to get up too early or late for that matter???

....

Whether my Mk5 turns up clean or not will depend entirely where I've had to drive this week and the weather and if I have time to clean her Friday afternoon.

I haven't powdercoated my Monza 18's yet - Having spent on my diff and needing to investigate my slightly 'bouncy' front suspension which might need money spending. I think I've found the colour though.

Both my front 'chin' and rear roof spoiler have been repainted.

I've got 2 surprises to be revealed on Saturday

Yeah sounds like September's not a good month for ED30s. Must remember this for next year!

I will be Poor old "Mr Standard Ed30" there, so ill just have to be as shiny as possible!

At least you have DSG to console yourself! I've got a manual!

I bet know though, i will win the "Most stone chips award "in the GTi 5 catagory!

And I'll win the most scrapes/poorest presentation.

Anybody have any idea what time we're all meeting up, how long it'll take and estimated time of finishing?

EDIT: This'll be my first offline meet of any forum/car group ever. Is there a protocol? Should I bring something?

everyone will need to try and be there by 9am to get the safety briefing over with. Its entirely up to you how long you stay, im guessing its a good 6 hrs to do everyone!, all your 3 runs will be together so dont feel that you have to stay till the end matie if you need to shoot.

Me and Rhyso are going to be meeting up at the Chieveley services A34 services to start a mini convoy.

....KoniFSD's and they've done just under 50k miles. Surely they should last longer than that. The extra grip now being delivered by the Quaife diff probably won't help the dynamics, yes?

....His fastest way might be Frome down to A303 > A34 > M3 > M27/A27 > JKM. Or Frome > A36 > A27 > JKM. My ex wife comes from Frome.

If so then we could make it an even bigger convoy

Is anyone coming past Guildford Cathedral (on the A3 basically)? Could meet at 08:00 - aiming to leave by 08:15 - should get us there by 08:50?

Just a thought.

Not too far from me then, I am just the other side of Milton Keynes but it's easier for me to get the M40 for the A34.

i work in MK. But M40 is too far away really. you've got rather more A road coverage than me on saturday! think 2 hours should be enough.

....You need much more time to get from Guildford at 8:15am > A3 > JKM by 8:50am (unless you maintain licence losing autobahn speeds!)

Oh really? TBH I haven't done the journey from the cathedral before (I normally join the A3 at the Farnham / Bordon junction). But your probably right, as going past the devil's punchbowl and Hindhead can be a little slow at times.

....There's an extensive 40 mph limit roadworks up there at the moment.
