So, after patiently waiting, I finally collect my 55-plate GTI tomorrow - and I can't wait.
As I've previously mentioned in posts, I have a friend who is a salesman at our local VW dealer, so the day after my Skyline sold I was straight down to see him - to see if they had anything that matched my requirements. My needs were quite simple, it had to be Steel grey, had to be within my budget had to be 3-door and HAD to have the 18" Monza's.
With those details to hand we searched the VW dealer network and found an exact match. A couple of calls later to confirm the 18's (as they weren't specified on the paperwork and we'd just gone off the photo's) and all was looking good. An HPI type check and a service history check and all was great. So, I put down a holding deposit and my local VW dealer effectively bought the car (with me still having the option to turn it away if I was not happy).
The car turned up on the 16th and I was given a call to come and take a look (normally cars are fully prepped first - but I was invited to see it in it's "just arrived" state). I was very pleased with what I saw...it had the 18's, it has the 10-speaker upgrade, it has an armrest, it has a 6-disc changer in the armrest and also has cruise control. The only issue was that there was very minor curbing to a couple of the wheels. On pointing this out I was informed that the wheels would be sent away and sorted. These arrived mid-last week, but unfortunately they wheel refurbers hadn't returned the centre pieces - so a new set was ordered. No problem though - as while they were on their way the car was going to be valeted.
So, tomorrow is the big day and I cannot wait for the day at work to end so that I can go and collect my new car.
As soon as I get the opportunity I'll post up some snaps. In the meantime I will be mostly doing this -->

Right, some very quick snaps. Unfortunately I didn't have time to dig the DSLR out and go and find a nice location, so I just stopped somewhere and took a couple of shots on the phone - before taking the car home and putting it in the garage (for now....long drive planned shortly :) ).
Anyway, here are a couple of shots:

Going to be taking my time getting used to it...it's VERY different from the Skyline I just sold.
Got to work out where everything is ! I've had a quick demo from my friend at the dealers but there's a lot to take in. Could do with a user manual ! lol !
I'm definitely wearing a  though !

I bet it is different!!!
What this car needs (from the first pic) is lower suspension and spacers on the back axle!

I bet you are still buzzing ATM
An ex-skyline chap eh!. There were a couple on the RR day I did on Saturday. Both GT-S. One was an R32 and the other an R33, but neither really ran big bhp. Weigh quite a bit more than a GTI/ED30 too

Mate, barring any damage, you'll be wearing that grin for weeks.
I've had my car now what 7-8 weeks? And I still can't believe I drive such a beauty. The effect is more pronounced if the car parked alone, in a car park or other wide-spaced area, and you're walking towards it.

Enjoy the car,am sure you will!!!,and you got the fastest colour

great golf
enjoy it

Yep, ex-Skyline. I had a 32 GTR running 440hp and around 380lbft torque (all work was done by Abbey Motorsport who are very well known and respected in the Skyline scene). Was great fun and VERY easy to get sideways (which made things interesting at times).
I've driven a few GTS-T's and they are very underrated cars, they really are fantastic fun.
I'm looking forward to MANY miles of fun motoring in the GTI though, I'm dead chuffed with it.
Thanks for all the kind comments folks. I'll try and post up some decent pictures as soon as possible !
