Hi, Does anyone know if a 2 litre Golf engine will bolt onto a 6 speed Audi Transaxle.
-
give us a clue on which audi you mean
-
And which Golf 2 litre engine???
-
I am building a mid engined car and looking for an engine transaxle combination. Because of Australian Registration laws, the engine must be less than three gears old. I have not been able to pick up a late mode manual A4 engine and gear box, but there are a number gold engines available. I had heard that the golf and the A4 have the same motor.
Any assistance on what motors might bolt to what transaxles would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Glenn

AFAIK it's the same 2 litre turbo engine. Some Audi versions have different turbocharges fitted though, so watch out for that. I think it's the KO4 charger instead of KO3?

And what "orientation" will the engine be placed?

Audi and VW may use the same basic engine blocks and so on, but they will have different clutches, different engine mounts, and different bell housings - which are purely dependent on weather they are to be transversely or longitudinally mounted.
So if you have an engine from a current Mk5 Golf, then the only Audi transaxles which will be compatible will be from the current shape Audi A3. I'd very much doubt that you could cross mate transverse and longitudinal components, without some serious customised fabrications. Though I could be wrong! :undecided:

Not quite. There are fundamental differences, due to the way the engine is mounted in the car.
